Abbott Established Pharmaceuticals (EPD) is looking for its new
to be based preferable in the EPD Headquarter Basel or in the Emerging Markets (Dubai/Singapore)
The Head of Tender for the emerging markets will be responsible for the development and implementation of innovative strategies and approaches to continuously improve Abbott performance in the tender business.
This role will be partnering with key markets and cross functional teams to build and execute best-in-class processes and solutions to leverage the local Tender Capabilities and optimize Abbott outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Understand customer and market needs as key inputs to building effective tender strategies and develop tender solutions that are customer focused. Also anticipate trends and opportunities in T&C business and continuously build up market and pricing intelligence.
Define the tender strategy and tactical initiatives and establish clear and measurable objectives and KPIs. Measure performance, progress and impact and periodically report performance to senior management and key stakeholders.
Ensure the five phases of the global tender process is applied across markets and partnering functions to achieve the highest efficiency and effectiveness in tender bidding.
Drive innovation and leads change to continuously improve the organizations tender capabilities and partner with regional and local stakeholders to tender revenue objectives.
Advances Abbott EPD’s tender capabilities, by developing, evolving and improving the effectiveness of the tender’s operational infrastructure, training curriculum, processes and technology platforms.
Partner with key internal/external stakeholders to procure and deploy new Tender platforms and ensure it is properly transitioned and leveraged by the Abbott organization to drive innovation within tender management.
Work with a broad multidisciplinary stakeholder including, finance, supply, pricing, marketing, corporate affairs, and local commercial and tender leaders to identify, develop and align and execute optimal tender processes and programs.
Partner with key markets to ensure transparency on all upcoming tender opportunities for Abbott portfolio 9-12 months in advance and ensure proactive and strategic tender planning and involvement of all required supporting functions to enhance our probability to win.
Lead ongoing collaboration with the global supply organization to optimize COGS for the Abbott tender molecules. Aggregate tender volume to achieve best COGs from the supply sites and coordinate supply chain management and process alignment to maintain supply continuity and reliability.
Engage and develop local market tender colleagues to become tender experts, supporting their capability development needs. Ensure market tender leads have the right capabilities, processes and tools at hand to be successful in their tender business and capture all growth opportunities.
Collaborate with cross functional global / regional / and local teams to shape tender environment where possible, partnering with marketing, corporate affairs, local commercial teams and other key stakeholders to support the development and implementation of robust customer value propositions
Manage and control OPEX budget for regional tender management and optimization initiatives
This is an strategic cross-functionally position that leads the Tender and Government Channel Teams in the region / affiliates and has no direct reports but is managing across the matrix.
Minimum Experience/Training Required:
Bachelor degree required. Advanced degree in Healthcare/Business/Marketing/Commerce. MBA preferred
5+ years Management experience (team and project management) preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
8+ years of Commercial Leadership experience required preferred in Emerging Markets
5+ years of working experience in Tender Management on local, regional, or global level is desired
Previous experience in global/regional leadership roles with extensive experience managing projects in a cross-cultural environment is preferred
Previous knowledge with tender management systems is an advantage
Competencies/skills:
Possess general management with strong financial and commercial background; understanding of sales & marketing, manufacturing/supply and understanding of cost structures
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to create a compelling business case based on structured analysis across multiple factors e.g. volume, value, risk, price referencing, stakeholder management
Commercial Acumen with a clear Customer Focus, ability to modify strategy plans according to market dynamics and internal changing requirements
Leadership and People Management, providing expert guidance to the commercial area and allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing the work
Working understanding of the distribution and transportation industries, negotiations, claims management, supply chain experience, customs/documentation and compliance knowledge
Proven ability to build coalition and develop strong partnership across functions.

Structured persuasive selling and strong management negotiation skills with 3rd party distribution and transportation companies
