Summary Louis Dreyfus Company is a global player in the commodities sector. Its businesses include worldwide origination, transport, processing and merchandising of agricultural commodities, freight and metals. LDC is looking for an experienced Commercially minded Lawyer to join a busy Geneva-based legal team, who will provide day to day legal support to LDC and its affiliated companies at the global level including: This key role requires a highly organised, rigorous and motivated individual with a commercial aptitude and highly collaborative approach with self-assured developed legal skills/expertise.





Main Responsibilities
- Provide business-oriented legal advice focused on dry shipping and trading of commodities, , including day-to-day assistance to the operational activities, early dispute resolution, advising on the merits at the global level.

- Provide comprehensive legal support to the shipping and trading operations, contentious and non-contentious.

- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of contracts in relation to trading and shipping, , support the business negotiations;

- Support with respect to dispute resolution / management of arbitration and litigation in a wide variety of jurisdictions,;

- Assisting with LDC project activities to the benefit of the team and of the business;

- Case management and liaising with local counsel in each jurisdiction as required;

- Analysis and monitoring of legal developments





Experiences
• 5-10 years of which minimum 5 years PQE, shipping/commodities trading house experience a plus.

• Ability to understand legal and commercial issues quickly, to digest and analyse the situation, to form hypotheses, to draw inferences and to question assumptions, to test ideas, to propose solutions, to discuss and argue constructively.

• Strong business and legal judgment and commercial attitude

• Analytical approach to identifying and practical approach to solving issues

• Excellent aptitudes for communication and presentation, experience of working in an international environment.

• Ability to work well under pressure, to respect deadlines and to assume responsibilities





Skills
• Ability to understand legal and commercial issues quickly, to digest and analyse the situation, to form hypotheses, to draw inferences and to question assumptions, to test ideas, to propose solutions, to discuss and argue constructively.

• Strong business and legal judgment and commercial attitude

• Analytical approach to identifying and practical approach to solving issues

• Ability to work well under pressure, to respect deadlines and to assume responsibilities

English. French and/or Spanish as well would be an advantage.

• Self-motivated, diligent and detail-oriented

• Ability to successfully interact with executives as well as staff

• The role is intellectually sophisticated and challenging. All of the above will need to be done under pressure, and in response to questions in person including from people at the top of the organization.

• It will be routine for example to be asked on to a call at no notice and be asked questions by a platform head in connection with a situation that has arisen suddenly.
