Governance Services Department DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Director, Legal Counsel and Administration, the Legal Assistant provides the following support related to the work of the legal office.
� Conduct basic research on issues of relevant law, using existing legal files and alternative sources.
� Draft, edit, proofread and finalize for signature and/or processing a variety of correspondence and other communications on legal matters.
� Process and record correspondence ensuring conformity to relevant guidelines and requirements, extract key data and update databases, monitor requisite timely follow-up actions, approvals, etc.
� Under supervision, edit and conduct final check for accuracy of a variety of specialized legal documentation, instruments and publications.
� Handle, or refer to the responsible officer as appropriate, a variety of verbal and written inquiries from internal and external parties, including providing information on processes and procedures related to specific legal activities.
� Assist in the preparation of legal documents for electronic storage, access and circulation/publication, including document scanning and conversion, review of content and extraction of key data and text excerpts for categorization and indexing purposes, etc.
� Service intergovernmental and other meetings; compile relevant background materials; assist in the preparation of relevant documents.
� Coordinate administrative services, including preparing and monitoring requests (e.g., liaising with relevant units and maintaining related statistics for reporting purposes as required.
� Orient staff to relevant administrative procedures and practices and provide guidance to other support staff, as required.
� Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in paralegal work, conference servicing, general office support or related area is required. Knowledge of UN administrative rules and regulations is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another WMO language is desirable.
