DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. For our Operations Department, we are seeking a dynamic, organised and creative individual to be our next: 


Project Assistant – 100%


Location:               Geneva
Starting date:        as soon as possible, latest by Monday 03.05.2021
Duration:               24 months


THE ROLE


The Project Assistant (PA) provides support in the implementation and administration of the work of the Operations Department. The PA will work directly with the Head of Department and the Department’s Programme Management Advisor. The PA may be asked to provide occasional support to other Divisions, as required.  The PA primarily assists the Programme Management Advisor on project management, research, and administration. The PA also provides ad-hoc support in monitoring/evaluation, reporting and coordination of department activities. This is a role that is expected to progressively take on greater responsibility, including supporting the organization, facilitation and reporting on activities. 


Departmental Support
•    Administrative tasks including drafting meeting agendas and minutes and preparing documents for dissemination 
•    Event planning, Collecting and synthesizing input from Operations Department divisions and units
•    Planning and managing routine training and M&E support for the department
•    Contributing to the development of departmental guidance and standards (e.g. for project cycle management)
•    Designing and managing key departmental documents and SharePoint spaces including:  
o    Knowledge product matrix
o    Operations Department work plan 
o    Fundraising dashboard
o    Programme management resources page
Research:
•    Conduct research in support of the Department’s activities
•    Review and edit of a variety of internal and external research products
•    Assist in the coordination of external researchers
•    Support the conduct of M&E and Lessons activities
•    Any other assigned research tasks.


YOUR EXPERIENCE 
•    Max. 2 years of experience working on security, governance or peacebuilding projects.
•    MA or comparable background in political science, international relations, security studies, development studies, conflict studies, or a related field.
•    Excellent communications skills, and a professional level of written and spoken English and French.  
•    Familiarity with project planning and design, budget management, project implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
•    Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail. 
•    Knowledgeable in using Excel and SharePoint
•    Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite.
