This position is an exceptional opportunity to join Varian and the Varian Service team located in Villegen, Schweiz, Switzerland.

As Field Service Engineer you will have an important role delivering high-quality onsite service to Varian’s customers in Denmark, this role is ideal for someone with strong on-site customer support experience from the engineering sector that enjoys customer contact and takes great pride in providing excellent service. You will be joining an existing team of on-site Field Service Engineers at the PSI Switzerland and you will be working closely in a team with Medical services at the customer site


Being Varian’s ‘face’ towards the customer it is vital that you enjoy customer contact, can interpret customer concerns and take immediate action.


Skills Required



  • Provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site operation, corrective and preventive maintenance of a proton therapy equipment and ancillary devices.


  • Control and ensuring that Proton Therapy (PT) device is performing according specification


  • Reporting and documenting, key performance indicator on PT devices


  • Troubleshooting, corrective and preventive maintenance


  • Work directly on the customer site and no daily travelling will be required


  • You will be working on highly complex installation system in Proton Therapy, including MRI, CT Scan and Radiology technology devices


  • Assisting the customer with Vacuum technology, motion control and robotics.


  • You will act as a trainer to the customer personnel on the Varian Product


  • Works in small teams and requires a minimum of supervision.


  • May be required to specialise in specific technical areas and have some level of cross-functional and overall system knowledge.


  • Input detailed records of installation and upgrade work performed into company information systems to ensure accurate updated customer installation information is available to other VMS functions.


  • Maintain a high degree of professional knowledge and safety consciousness according to VMS guidelines in order to perform activities under the safest working conditions.



Skills & Experience Required



  • Experience within automation, medical device industry and proton therapy


  • Strong hardware and software technical experience


  • Preferred experience with proton systems


  • Electrical engineering or IT or Mechanical background – Electronic or complex IT and software environment


  • Strong interest in new technology and learning new systems – continuous learning curve


  • Profound knowledge in electronic and in mechanic, 3 to 5 years dedicated experience


  • Willingness to work in a rotating shift pattern and during irregular hours 


  • Demonstrates a customer focused attitude


  • Articulate and skilled in interpersonal communication


  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken



Other Desired Skills and Knowledge



  • High School Degree or equivalent 2 – 3 years of related experience


  • Sound computer usage and debugging skills


  • Knowledge of networks and networking techniques


  • Solid understanding of imaging systems


  • Familiar with business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


  • Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired
