Your 'day to day' As a Sr Scientist you will apply scientific/technical knowledge in chemistry to conduct research, development, and project activities of elaborate complexity aiming at serving innovation themes for smoke-free strategy. You will work independently on concepts for the development of innovative products. You will be asked to propose alternatives aiming at solving existing problems or creating new business opportunities and to test their feasibility on a test-bench. You will also be expected to adapt to possible change of scope, priorities, to deal with a certain level of uncertainties and to contribute to project schedules, estimates, test plans, and recommendations of technical alternatives. You will lead scientific projects requiring collaboration across the organization. More specifically, you will: • Conceptualize and develop innovative solutions in the domain of chemistry for enhancing product acceptance and performance. Identify or define molecules to perform a given function. Perform independently and/or supervise experiments on proof of concept stage to demonstrate idea feasibility. Transpose the feasibility stage into solutions suitable for product development and scale-up. Collaborate with sub-functions to get complementary information whenever required. Ensure that quality & reliability of the measurements are in line with project expectation. • Build up and maintain a network of internal external experts. Ensure that new chemical solutions are captured within the IP group. Acquire know-how on toxicology and regulatory to identify risks, build argumentation and propose mitigation to maximize chance of success. • Target external partners to synthesize the molecules or develop solutions if not commercially available. Identify external resources, structure research projects, develop scope and schedule, define resources and requirements and manage project communication and reporting. • Identify methodologies & technologies either internally or externally aiming at supporting chemistry research projects and at characterizing new products/materials and resulting aerosols when no solution exist. Build scientific know-how based on product understanding, literature search, patents, conferences and creative thinking to propose improvement or new development and share findings across the organization. • As author, write autonomously plans and reports. Critically review scientific documents as subject matter expert whenever required. • Work in accordance to quality regulations for Good Research Practices, IP management, EHS procedures, PMI policies and procedures. Who we're looking for • Academic degree in chemistry (PhD), organic chemistry as preferred field, or equivalent skills through extensive experience in analytical field • Proven ability to establish, write & review business & scientific documents, ability to interact with stakeholders • Knowledge in tobacco business, regulatory and IP is a plus as well as a solid knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as Research Good practices • Quick learner with a pragmatic, analytical and autonomous mindset • Strong problem solving and organizational capabilities coupled with proven leadership skills • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization • Fluent English is a must What we offer Our success depends on the men and women who come to work every single day with a sense of purpose and an appetite for progress.
