Associate Director, Global Commercial Innovation

Job Description


To save and improve lives we must continually evolve not just our products, but also our commercial model. There is a need to identify critical global trends and rapidly experiment against these trends to gain commercial insights which will guide future strategy.


This role will be critical in shaping a brand-new team dedicated to commercial innovation and helping inform future commercial strategy. We are structured (and objectivized) as an internal startup, and we need collaborative leaders with a growth mindset to drive this work to the next level globally.


The Associate Director of Global Commercial Excellence – Commercial Innovations Lab will help lead commercial innovation against new Business Models, Operating Models and Commercial Models with Markets across Prioritized Therapeutic Areas.


This position can be based in…Upper Gwynedd PA, Kenilworth NJ, or Zurich Switzerland


We will be experimenting in the following areas:



  • Social Determinants of Healthcare – can we unlock lost or neglected patients?


  • Value-based Healthcare – can we lead the way in transforming healthcare economics?


  • Digital Health – how can technology enhance patient experiences?



Key Responsibilities:



  • Partner with analytics experts (internally and externally) to identify future trends which may affect our business and routinely socialize these with key leaders in the business


  • Lead a global series of commercial experiments to identify key insights that can inform our future commercial strategy


  • Collaborate with managing directors and leadership across the commercial organization to design, execute, and analyze commercial experiments and build a network of innovation which crowdsources evidence to inform commercial trade-offs


  • Co-create new experiments to test, learn and enable commercial insights that could be scaled throughout Human Health


  • Routinely design and communicate key strategic insights to guide decision making across the commercial business, whilst continually staying ahead of the curve on relevant trends in healthcare, technology and socioeconomics



Education Minimum Requirement: 



  • Required:  BA/BS


  • Preferred:  MBA



Required Experience and Skills: 



  • Minimum of three (3) years commercial experience in at least two of the following: marketing (inc. omnichannel strategy), commercial strategy, market research, analytics, user experience design, sales, or business management


  • Solid understanding of our Vaccines, HIV, and Oncology franchises


  • Demonstrable examples of having a growth mindset – you will be inspiring others to innovate so it’s critical that you have regularly innovated in your own experience



Preferred Experience and Skills:



  • Experience in Innovation, Experimentation, or Design Thinking


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, confident to present ideas, and defend your perspective with evidence


  • Experience driving diverse teams in a solid line and/or matrix environment


  • Successful commercial experience leading brands across therapeutic areas


  • Strong US customer knowledge and the ability to focus on customers and patients when making decisions


  • Strong organizational and project management skills


  • Strong collaboration skills (demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and cross-divisionally and lead teams to get work done); experience interfacing with colleagues in global marketing, manufacturing, regulatory, and finance


  • Understanding of commercial and regulatory requirements


  • Experience working on digital initiatives and/or transformation projects
