OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The World Health Organization's Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research (SRH)includes the UNDP-UNFPA-UNICEF-WHO-World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP). HRP is the main instrument within the United Nations system for identifying research priorities on sexual and reproductive health and rights; for promoting, conducting, evaluating and coordinating related interdisciplinary research; for collaborating with countries to build national capacity to conduct research;and for promoting the use of research results in policy making and sexual and reproductive health programmes. The Department draws on research and global expertise to set norms and standards and develop global guidelines on sexual and reproductive health and rights. More information about HRP can be found atwww.who.int/reproductive-health/hrp.The Research Leadership and Capacity Strengthening Unit coordinates HRP's work on global research agenda setting for sexual and reproductive health and rights, research methodology development, scientific and ethical review processes, research capacity strengthening, research partner engagement, and technical support for study design, data management and statistical analysis.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The incumbent will:(1) Provide scientific support to the development, approval, initiation, implementation,monitoring and reporting of HRP research, including implementation ofinitiatives to attain the highest scientific and technical quality.(2) Manage the secretariat of the HRP Research Project Review Panel (RP2) and contribute to the continued developmentand implementation of the HRP research governance and review strategy,including updated and writing SOPs. Prepare related reports, scientific andtechnical materials and meetings working in collaboration with all HRPscientific and technical staff. Liaisingwith reviewers, external partners, grantees, collaborating centres (CCs), WHOstaff and other institutions and individuals of importance to HRP research toprovide broad support to research review and quality assurance, working also onresearch project development(3) Contribute to scientific strategy and quality insurance in HRP sexual and reproductive healthand rights research, identify linkages to research and research processes inother departments, and engage in support to research leadership by designingcalls for research proposals, supporting research processes in relation toresearch ethics, and developing research projects as needed(4) Contribute to advocacy and communications activities related to research governance andquality. (5) Carry outother tasks as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: An Advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in public health, social sciences, global health, medicine, epidemiology or a related relevant field.
Desirable: PhD or Doctoral degree in public health, social sciences, global health, medicine, epidemiology or a related relevant field.Advanced research training in sexual and reproductive health and rights, documented knowledge and training in quantitative and qualitative as well as implementation research methodologies.
Experience
Essential: At least seven years of research experience at post graduate level, including in sexual and reproductive health and rights, within either public or global health, social sciences, epidemiology or another related and relevant field. Demonstrated exposure at the international level.
Desirable: Experience in research in sexual and reproductive health and rights, applying different methodologies and philosophies of science. Experiences from research management and from conducting research reviewing. Experience of participation in scientific review boards or ethical review committees.
Skills
Scientific knowledge in sexual and reproductive health and rights research. Analytical and scientific methodological and writing skills, as evidenced by a track record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals in both quantitative and qualitative research, including in sexual and reproductive health and rights. Experience of working in an international context as evidenced by experience of participation in multi-country research.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 73,516 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5483 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
