About the Role

We are excited to open this position for a technical leadership role in Group Finance IT and the transformation program GFTA (Group Finance Target Architecture)! The candidate will take a key role in the unit to achieve our strategic goal to move towards an Azure cloud native landscape. The Head Data Engineering will assume overall responsibility of developing the mission critical data engineering landscape in the Azure cloud for Group Finance functions. This includes the Group Finance functions of Group Reporting, Treasury, Group Tax, and Group Planning.

You take a lead role to shape, to implement and to take ownership of the Group Finance Repository. The repository is the central data hub that serves various consuming systems, business intelligence and analytics solutions with group finance data. The repository is built on available platforms in the Azure cloud by following the architecture of a modern data warehouse. The core platforms in scope are: Databricks, Azure data Lake, Synapse, and PowerBI.

You lead a team of IT data engineering specialists. As a mentor and coach, you will suggest development goals and act as a role model for the team. You will establish team goals and continuously seek to optimize the performance of the entire team and its individuals.

You support the unit's lead solution architect to define and optimize the overall technical architecture and the technologies used. You drive the creation of, and check alignment to, technical decision records as a means of achieving consistency and a practical level of standardization across the overall product portfolio.

You co-ordinate tasks and prioritize work with product squads/tribes (Treasury, Group Reporting, Tax, Planning). Understand their needs, and work with them to propose, implement and support solutions

You act as an Azure public cloud champion beyond our unit. This includes engagement and knowledge share with Group Technology Services and its Cloud Center of Excellence, the Olympus transformation program (Finance) and other strategic Azure based initiatives.

About the Team

We are a small, dynamic and international team of specialists that design, build and operate the foundation of the Group Finance landscape in close collaboration with our business partners. We follow agile methodologies (daily stand-up, bi-weekly sprints, product increments) and apply DevOps best practices such as everything as code. The aim is to achieve a high level of automation that allows us to do continuous integration and continuous delivery.

About You

You have an exemplary software development background, with numerous results-oriented projects in a technical team lead or lead developer capacity. As an agent of change you continuously seek improvements to the velocity, quality and efficiency of solutions. You have tangible impact by deconstructing complex functional problems into simple, straightforward solutions that can be implemented in an efficient and timely manner. Skillset

• In depth understanding of available PaaS offerings in Azure and how to best use them in specific solution architectures.


• In depth experience in data engineering field with Spark based processing (ideally Databricks), relational databases and distributed data warehouses.


• Demonstrable history of applying automated testing and modern development practices to improve software quality and sustainability


• Practical experience in applying an agile way of working and in applying DevOps methodologies


• In depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including Azure DevOps


• Outstanding skills in technical writing and the ability to tailor communications to various partners in a clear, unambiguous and accurate manner
