Within Roche’s Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), Neuroscience & Rare Diseases represents a major focus area where we are committed to realizing our long-term vision of changing lives of patients with severe brain disorders. Our preclinical research and early clinical development activities center around large and rare indications within the four major pillars of neurodevelopmental disorders, movement disorders, dementias, and multiple sclerosis. To achieve our goals, Roche pRED Neuroscience & Rare Diseases is currently undergoing a major and exciting recruitment effort for a large number of new positions including three Medical Directors within our Early Development department. The focus of these positions is chiefly in the areas of neurodevelopmental disorders, genetic rare diseases of the nervous system, and neurodegenerative diseases. All positions are based in Basel, Switzerland.
In this role, you will lead early stage clinical projects through proof of mechanism and proof of concept, to transform molecules into new medicines in an area with huge unmet medical need.
Your main responsibilities are:
Lead clinical expert teams and represent them at the project team level
Lead the clinical development plan from Phase 0 (clinical candidate selection) through completion of Phase 2 (proof-of-concept)
Develop, review and approve clinical protocols IB, ICF, eCRF, medical monitoring plans in collaboration with clinical scientists in early development and clinical pharmacology
Manage, coach and support Clinical Scientists and/or Clinical Research Fellows in a line or functional manager status
Closely interface with safety, clinical pharmacology, clinical operations, regulatory, research and biomarker groups and other members of clinical project teams
Lead health authorities’ interactions in collaboration with global regulatory leaders
Lead Scientific Advisory Board activities with external academic and research community in collaboration with research project leaders and with biomarker leaders
Provide clinical input to programs in early research, from target assessment to clinical lead selection
Lead scientific communications and disseminate the results of clinical trials in form of oral presentation, posters and/or publications
You are MD or MD/PhD with a specialty in adult or pediatric neurology, or psychiatry with a focus on neurodevelopmental disorders.
Board certification in neurology or related specialty and fellowship training or research experience in relevant areas. Clinical experience in neurodevelopmental disorders, rare genetic diseases of the nervous system, or neurodegenerative disorders is requiredfor the role.
You bring a strong track record of scientific excellence \with high quality publications in the field, and you are considered a key opinion leader in the field. Level of the appointment will be commensurate with experience. For candidates from academia, a strong record of scholarship, in particular in clinical trials, is an important criterion. The candidate should be at least at the level of Associate Professor, with at least 7 years of experience as an independent investigator with national and international recognition in the field.
Experience in clinical drug development within industry is a strong asset, ideally early stages of clinical development. As a leader, you will work within a matrix environment where influencing and inspiring others in striving for excellence is expected.
