Business Development Manager European Industry and Societies (100%)


This multifaceted role includes:



  • Structure and implement a Pharma & Biotech Industry, and related professional Societies, strategy for the European Market to further support and develop the over-arching Karger sic! Strategy

  • Grow the current Karger ecosystem, by engaging with our known network and activating those across Industry and Societies to ensure our reach is extended beyond our current reach

  • Formulate strategy for growing the entire PACS (Publish, Access, Curate and Services) portfolio across all relevant Karger Business Units including ARM (Academic and Research Markets), CPM (Clinical and Patient Markets), ISS (Industry and Society Services) and ED (Editorial Development) based on the Karger Explorative, Growth and Focus matrix

  • Effective planning with all Business Units ensuring successful renewals and growth of existing business and the development of new business

  • Work with the Business Units to develop customer-centric PACS offerings to benefit the research and development workflow at all levels, from technicians to Sr Researchers operating large-scale research teams.

  • Act as the bridge-head between customer and ED to create partnership publication, industry reprints, industry-sponsored access, and editorial development opportunities within Industry and Societies across Europe

  • Identify, activate and maintain relevant stakeholder relationships from across the market

  • Plan and maintain an efficient travel schedule; 50% of working month should be spent visiting customers

  • Participate in society, industry and researcher events, congresses and conferences


Qualification and experience required:



  • College degree

  • Miller Heiman (or similar) training / experience seen as a benefit

  • Publishing / Medical industry sales experience is desirable

  • Minimum 7+ years-experience in the Publishing and/or Pharma & Biotech industries

  • Excellent IT knowledge (Microsoft Office / 365, Salesforce etc.)

  • Language skills – English: excellent command (proficiency); German, French, Italian, Spanish and/or Swedish are desired but not a must-have; further languages would be an advantage

  • Professional multi-tasker with an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Strong commercial and business acumen, and can work well under pressure to meet deadlines and deliver KPI’s

  • Excellent written communication skills and strong presentation skills
