The TOMCAT beamline has been providing cutting-edge tomographic microscopy to a heterogeneous international scientific community and has generated seminal contributions in key areas like (bio-) medical research, material science, energy, geoscience, and paleontology. Internationally, TOMCAT is considered a benchmark and is presently driving the developments of dynamical tomographic microscopy. Capitalizing on the unique properties of the upcoming new SLS-2 machine, we aim at maintaining and strengthening our leading role in the field with the deployment of the TOMCAT 2.0 upgrade.



For our team, we are looking for aBeamline Scientist (Tenure Track)TOMCAT 2.0Your tasks

  • Development of innovative imaging applications within the TOMCAT 2.0 upgrade program (design of novel concepts, methods and instruments; procurement and commissioning of the necessary equipment and infrastructure; coordination of the work with PSI specialist groups)

  • User support on SLS-TOMCAT first and (S-TOMCAT and I-TOMCAT) on SLS-2 later on

  • Design/execution of imaging experiments with TOMCAT infrastructure as PI and/or in collaboration and dissemination of results on scientific journals and international meetings

  • Acquisition of third-party funds at Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF level and beyond

  • Supervision of postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, diploma students and interns

Your profileWe are looking for a team player able to bridge complex beamline experiments with users, ambitious own research and passionate supervision. The successful candidate should have a PhD degree in physics or related field, experience in synchrotron radiation and optics as well as image processing and scientific computing. Previous experience as junior staff at synchrotron imaging facilities as well as in leading/managing small research projects are welcome. Excellent knowledge of English is required and knowledge of German is beneficial.We offerOur institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration.
