Division Lead Counsel - Turbochargers Division, Process Automation Business Area

In this role, you will be providing comprehensive legal support to the Turbocharger Division within the Process Automation Business Area. You will be acting as a strategic business partner and enabler.

You will be reporting to the Global General Counsel of the Process Automation Business Area.

The position is graded 9.


Your responsibilities



  • Representing Legal and Integrity(L&I) in the Division management team providing strategic and operational guidance, legal support and advising the Division leadership on relevant business opportunities and ongoing matters.

  • Actively participating in the relevant risk reviews for the Division, enabling accurate risk assessment and providing clear recommendations and approvals as required, including in connection with public tenders as well as laws and regulations relating to other public administrative bodies, in particular with respect to antitrust law.

  • Providing legal advice and support as needed on a wide variety of Division-related legal and integrity matters including legal structure set-up, corporate governance, Intellectual Property (IP), integrity, Merger and Acquisition (M&A), Tax, regulatory, contractual (outsourcing of work packages) and commercial.

  • Being responsible for creating and updating of the required contract templates for the Division, in close coordination with the other ABB Division Lead Counsels and Regional General Counsels, for ensuring risk mitigation, consistency and sound legal and commercial judgement.

  • Providing strategic direction and legal advice on strategic alliances, selection of business partners, joint ventures and other organic and inorganic growth and commercialization opportunities.

  • In close coordination with the Regional General Counsels for the Business Area, supporting the structuring, negotiating, reviewing and drafting of international and domestic transactions, including complex sales sourcing, sharing purchase agreements, shareholders’ agreements, joint venture agreements, technology transfer and other license agreements.

  • Participating in the formulation, interpretation and implementation of ABB policies for ensuring consistency and compliance with contractual obligations, corporate standards and applicable laws.

  • Working in close coordination with the other Division Lead Counsels and Regional General Counsels for the Process Automation Business Area and under the leadership of the Global General Counsel for Process Automation.

Your background



  • Legal degree from accredited law school with a demonstrable superior academic record and law firm training and admission to the Switzerland country bar.

  • More than 15 years of post-qualification legal experience or equivalent in an internationally recognized law firm or multinational company.

  • Experience working with listed entities and related corporate governance.

  • Experience leading teams, managing litigation, managing external counsels.

  • Strong negotiating skills and high persuasiveness.

  • Strong command of international commercial, regulatory and compliance laws including working knowledge of the key international conventions as well as public procurement and antitrust law, M&A experience is very desirable.

  • Demonstrable computer literacy with specific ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other software such as redlining tools.

  • Fluency in English, German and preferably one additional language.
