All of this helps us to 1) better define and advise business strategy and decision making, and 2) develop product value propositions that improve patient outcomes and optimize care while enhancing healthcare delivery efficiencies and cost.


The challenge we offer


As a member of the EMEA regional business leadership team and the Global Medical Affairs organization, you will contribute to the value maximization of Medical Affairs people, processes and product portfolio for the entire BD EMEA organization.


The VP will be sensing new clinical and health economics trends and translating these meaningful insights and strategies for BD, developing a Regional Medical Affairs Strategic Plan and gain acceptance by the Chief Medical Officer and the Regional Leadership Team.


We offer a role with both strategic, tactical and hands-on aspects, with oversight on all ongoing and future medical activities in EMEA Region. This includes investigator-initiated studies, working with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), promotional and informative activities and materials; consultant and advisory meetings and medical scientific grants including budget responsibility.


Other responsibilities include:



  • Assessing & building medical affairs capabilities further down in the organization


  • Establishing positive relationships with key authorities and institutions and engaging with existing healthcare professionals and professional groups having insights and values of relevance to BD


  • Developing Regional BD Evidence Generation strategy in collaboration with our function, BUs and Regional leadership


  • Acting as the contact in the Region for medical and scientific questions for both new and existing products in BD portfolio


  • Addressing product or patient safety issues affecting multiple Business Units by intervention with healthcare professionals as well as within BD processes


  • Assisting with legislative, market access and reimbursement efforts across wider fronts


  • Ensuring medical compliance with local regulations, good clinical practices and BD’s standard operating procedures.


  • Partnering with Business Development for evaluating licensing opportunities



What we are looking for


A Physician or Medical Doctor experienced in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry with clinical experience within EMEA, you have experience in one or more therapeutic areas of BD activity. You have also managed Medical Affairs teams, including field-based medical teams at a national or regional level.


A confirmed leader with eye for business, you possess influencing skills and success in driving organizational change in a sophisticated matrix organization. Collaborative, you establish strong working relationships with cross-functional teams. Ability to identify unmet clinical needs will be crucial for success in this role, as will be evaluating product opportunities from a clinical perspective, and help develop strategies that leads to efficient development of such opportunities.


Other key attributes include:



  • Organizing, prioritizing and working effectively in a constantly evolving environment


  • Experience engaging with and appreciation of market access challenges, and of the payer landscape


  • In-depth knowledge of clinical and regulatory requirements for a multi-layer medical organization


  • Solid understanding of safety reporting requirements for both drugs and devices


  • Clinical trial experience with solid knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).


  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time.
