F1 Data Intelligence Engineer - 2 positions to be filled (Geneva - Switzerland)


The FIA Electronics Department leads the digital transformation through electronics and data systems. Within this department, the F1 Data Intelligence Group will focus on designing, building and deploying the data analysis platform that will enable more effective real-time decisions trackside and allow data-driven design of future sporting and technical regulations.


We seek result-driven, proactive people, who are passionate about building software that solves problems by transforming how engineers use data and technology. They must have a desire to innovate in a collaborative atmosphere, as part of a growing team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the unique and inspiring Motorsport environment.


The position will be based in our headquarters in Geneva and will involve some travel to championship events.


MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The missions of the F1 Data Intelligence Engineer revolve around designing, building and deploying capabilities that let users access, visualise and interact with data to meet their analytical needs, without requiring them to master querying languages, statistical modelling or the command line.


To accomplish this, the Data Intelligence Engineer is involved in all stages of the product life cycle: idea generation, user interviews, planning, design, prototyping, execution, shipping and iteration.


Data Collection



  • Develop bespoke tools to acquire or extract heterogeneous data from a growing number of sources, including but not limited to car telemetry, audio, video, declaration forms and test benches

  • Build upon the current concept of FIA Virtual Garage to make it more robust and versatile in order to enhance remote support during championship events

  • Improve the FIA Data Lake and speed up data access for all FIA sites and remote workers


 


Data Integration



  • Develop a bespoke FIA Data Warehouse and streamline data access both for legality and performance analysis including large-scale data mining

  • Develop and deploy a data augmentation platform aimed at capitalising simulation results and machine learning data analytics

  • Participate in the development of a FIA Data Structure aimed at unifying data access across all FIA championships


 


Data Analysis



  • Build upon the current suite of FIA data analysis tools to scrutinise heterogeneous data, run simulations and generate insights more effectively

  • Liaise with the Performance Group to bridge the gap between factory and trackside operations and help migrate tools from historical data analysis to live data analysis

  • Liaise with Trackside Engineers to streamline their data analysis workflow by automating live and historical data analysis

  • Liaise with the Trackside Engineers to identify new opportunities, develop and deploy solutions that improve operational efficiency


 


Data Presentation



  • Specify and develop an automated data monitoring platform aimed at proactively alerting stakeholders

  • Liaise with the Performance Group and Trackside Engineers to automate report generation and distribution

  • Empower all stakeholders across the organisation with advanced data visualization solutions, tailored to each user, from dashboards to advanced data mining software


PROFILE:



  • Bachelor or Master’s degree or equivalent expert level in Computer Science or Software Engineering

  • Passionate about building tailored end-to-end software solution that not only enable users to solve their problems but also provide an uncompromised User Experience

  • You have a substantial and broad amount of software development experience notably relying on microservices architecture and interacting with large scale and high frequency timeseries data structures

  • Excellent understanding how web technologies work and are comfortable developing both client and server software using industry-standard frontend and backend frameworks

  • Strong knowledge and hands on experience with the technical tools associated with both on-premises and cloud infrastructures, network-based software architectures, microservices message brokers, containerisation, distributed storage and computing environments and data security

  • Ability to learn continuously, work autonomously, and make decisions

  • You are comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives and iteration with users

  • Ability to work effectively within teams of technical and non-technical individuals

  • Native or fluent English speaker ; French optional
