Senior Contract Manager (80-100%)

In this challenging role, you will oversee contracts- and claim management for small to medium-size projects with high complexity. Our local product group is counting on your expertise, know-how and proven track record gained during the entire processes of the project life cycle (from the project early initiation stage through the contract close-out stage) to safeguard or improve the long-term project profitability and ABB`s contractual position.


Your responsibilities



  • Provide guidance on contract related matters to cross-department business team members in Sales, Procurement and Project Management from the sales phase throughout the project lifecycle and participate in contract negotiations and claim negotiations

  • Master governing laws (civil law & common law), especially the contract law in the relevant area of responsibility

  • Draft, review, analyze and comment contractual tender terms and conditions in close cooperation with the tender team, taking into account risk, pricing, scope and schedule and highlight areas of risks and opportunities

  • Ensure with Project Management proper execution of contracts (from commercial & contractual perspective), enforcement and defense of claims and the development of a claim strategy (in conjunction with Legal if litigation is likely), in close cooperation with the project core team

  • Liaise with the Legal Department regarding major claims and critical developments in sales, procurement and throughout the project lifecycle. Support the Legal Department in dispute resolution and litigation activities

  • Actively participate in the risk review and project reviews processes from a contractual and risk perspective and ensure adherence to the relevant instructions

  • Provide advice for questions related to export financing as well as export risk insurance, bank guarantees, letter of credits, insurance and taxes

  • Provide support and guidance in all integrity matters including compliance with the ABB Group Charter, Code of Conduct and applicable Group Directives & Instructions

  • Provide trainings related to Integrity and contract- and claim management topics


Your background



  • Master’s degree in legal, commercial or technical field or comparable professional education

  • Minimum six years of experience in bids, negotiations and contract management for complex (international) projects, preferably in the process industry, plant construction industry or rail industry

  • Three years' successful track record in contract- and claim management in complex and large projects

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of compliance matters

  • Strong personality with ability to work in an international environment

  • High degree of reliability and an ability to work well under pressure

  • Team player with strong communication skills who is able to collaborate with all internal and external stakeholders

  • Very good in English and German both oral and written; other language skills are a plus
