The Position is limited to six years and is affiliated with the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology of the University of Zurich and the University Hospital Zurich.
The Assistant Professorship offers major opportunities for establishing a first-class translational research program in the field of theragnostic tumor pathology in collaboration with numerous partners and institutions in Zurich, including the Comprehensive Cancer Center Zurich. In particular, it will strongly interact with the Department of Nuclear Medicine and the Department of Radiology at the University Hospital Zurich. Theragnostic tools of nuclear medicine generate genetic and protein information for the development of diagnostic assays and for precise anatomical localization of cancer. Findings of such novel molecular imaging approaches have to be verified by tissue analyses and morphological validation. The candidate's research should cover these or similar areas, focusing on a specific organ system with potential applications of theragnostic and molecular imaging tools.
The Professorship is designed for a "Clinician Scientist" with board certification in Pathology and several years of postdoctoral experience. Expertise in the molecular characterization of tumor tissue would be of advantage. The Professorship should establish an independent research group with international profile supported by competitive third-party funding. Apart from activities in clinics and research, the Professorship will contribute to teaching in the curriculum of human medicine and in postgraduate specialization programs.
Applicants should have achieved outstanding scientific qualifications and should have a habilitation.
Fluency in German, both written and spoken, is mandatory. This position requires an integrative personality strongly interested in social developments, whose profile is complemented by a high level of social competence.
The University of Zurich and the University Hospital are equal opportunity employers and in particular strive to increase the percentage of women in leading positions. Therefore, qualified female researchers are encouraged to apply.
