The research group headed by Prof. Martin Jinek at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, is looking for a talented, goal-driven and team-oriented co-worker to join as a research assistant (laboratory technician). Research in the Jinek laboratory is focused on studying the molecular structures and biochemical mechanisms of CRISPR-Cas genome editing systems and protein-RNA complexes. The research assistant will contribute to these activities by providing general and project-specific laboratory support.
Your responsibilities
As a research assistant in the Jinek group, you will be responsible for:
Management of laboratory inventory and logistics support
General maintenance of lab equipment, including chromatography instruments
Independent preparation of laboratory reagents, cell culture media, agar plates, competent cells
Recombinant DNA technology (plasmid DNA minipreps, PCR, restriction enzyme cloning)
Expression of recombinant proteins in bacteria (E. coli)
Purification of proteins and enzymes using chromatographic techniques
Your profile
Interested candidates must have:
Bachelor degree (University or Fachhochschule) in biochemistry or a related field, OR completed vocational training as a laboratory technician (EFZ Laborant/in, Fachrichtung Biologie o. Chemie)
Preferably 1-3 years of practical experience
Practical experience with basic methods for molecular biology and protein biochemistry
Working experience with chromatographic instruments (Aekta Pure, Aekta Purifier)
Good knowledge in the MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Good communication skills in English and German
Attention to detail, good organisational and record-keeping skills
