DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. For our Operations Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Division, we are looking for a highly dedicated and dynamic individual to be our next:


PROJECT ASSISTANT – WEB & COMMUNICATION (100 %)


Location:                       Geneva


Starting date:                January 2021


Duration:                       One-year contract, renewal subject to availability of funds


The role


The Project Assistant, as specified under these terms of reference, shall be a key resource and point of contact for the day-to-day supervision of DCAF OPMENA’s online projects and presence for the duration of the contract. The Project Assistant will report to the Head of North Africa Desk and the Head of Middle East Desk and will provide support to the OPMENA Division.


Key areas of operation:



  • Support OPMENA Division project managers in programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation for projects exploiting web-based services, including assisting in updating workplans of project components;

  • Ensure efficient administration of contracts with service providers, ensure payments of service providers, website content managers and other consultants and services, as appropriate.

  • Liaise with websites content managers and ensure coordination with, and guidance from, Desks and field offices, as relevant.

  • Liaise and coordinate with the DCAF Communication unit with a view to ensuring full compliance of OPMENA online presence and projects with corporate branding and communication strategy.

  • Provide secretariat and archiving support for all websites- and online projects-related contractual, administrative and financial documents, including centralizing access codes and passwords for all websites and services.


2. Development, monitoring and evaluation of online projects



  • Support project managers in developing processes and workflows for better and more efficient management of the OPMENA Division’s websites and online projects, including tailored content to increase audience interaction and enhance presence on social media.

  • Support and develop the monitoring, evaluation and learning system related to online projects and contribute to the DCAF results-based management (RBM) process.

  • Contribute to the drafting of a divisional strategy on online web project management and communication, under the guidance of the Head of Division and the Desks, and in coordination with DCAF Communication unit.



3. Other tasks



  • Collect and coordinate OPMENA inputs, entries, postings, images for the DCAF corporate website, including entries for the DCAF Bulletin, under Desks’ guidance.

  • Support coordination and regular updating of all OPMENA leaflets and factsheets, in coordination, as appropriate, with the OPMENA Fundraising Manager and the DCAF Communication unit.

  • Provide any other support as requested by the OPMENA Division.


Minimum requirements



  • Bachelor’s degree with master’s degree or an advanced qualification in communications, web design, or another relevant field

  • At least 1 year of relevant professional experience

  • Oral and written fluency in English, fluency in French is strongly desired. Arabic is an asset


Additional skills



  • Prior experience with WordPress and Drupal, as well as website management is a strong asset

  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite is an asset

  • Initiative, confidence and ability to offer and implement ideas

  • Personal commitment to improving your own knowledge and skills
