The Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs 6,000 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of 16,000 people, including over 10,000 students and 3,500 researchers from 120 different countries.
Post-doctoral Researcher in Biophysically Detailed Neuron Modeling (W/M)
Your mission :
The aim of the EPFL Blue Brain Project (BBP), a Swiss brain research initiative founded and directed by Professor Henry Markram, is to establish simulation neuroscience as a complementary approach alongside experimental, theoretical and clinical neuroscience to understanding the brain, by building the world’s first biologically detailed digital reconstructions and simulations of the mouse brain.
Within the Cells section we are looking for a Post-doctoral Researcher in Biophysical Neuron Modeling (W/M).Main duties and responsibilities include :
The primary objectives for this position are to strengthen on-going large-scale biophysical neuron modeling and validation efforts in the project, and to undertake original scientific research to characterize the role of intrinsic cellular and dendritic integration mechanisms in computation and dynamics at the network level. This also involves improving the algorithms and workflows used for building the neuron models. Scientific leadership is expected to supervise computational neuroscience students, as is an intimate knowledge of the employed software in order to interface with engineering teams. The position is in close contact with an electrophysiology lab and modeling will go hand in hand with available and newly acquired experimental data.Your profile :
PhD or equivalent experience in Neuroscience, Computational neuroscience, Physics or related field
Expert in multi-compartment conductance-based modeling
Experience in using scientific computing software (python, scipy, numpy, Linux, etc.)
Knowledge of whole cell electrophysiology, ion channel experiments
Strong team player and fluent English in speech and writing
Are nice to have:
Experience in using the NEURON simulator
Experience in automated neuron model optimization techniques
Experience in parameter optimization techniques
Experience in other programming languages, parallel computing and software development (unit testing, continuous integration, version control, debugging and documentation)
Experience in supervision of students and teaching
We offer :
An internationally visible project in simulation-based research in Neuroscience
A dynamic, inter-disciplinary, and international working environment
A modern working environment, based at the Biotech Campus in Geneva Sécheron
