Our research group on Social Transitions, as part of the Social Research and Methodology Group of the Department of Social Sciences, University of Basel (soziologie.philhist.unibas.ch/de/home/), investigates fundamental questions and practical solutions on social transformations, innovation, and resilience. We intend to expand our collaboration with international institutions associated with the UN SDGs. We welcome applications for the position for a senior assistant/senior researcher on topics associated with SDG 3, 12, 13, and/or 16.


Your position

You will develop with Prof. Dr. Manfred Max Bergman a research program and help expand our network on social transformations associated with SDG 3, 12, 13, and/or 16. Your activities will focus on academic contributions associated with resilience of societies and the environment. You will initiate and facilitate exchanges with regional programs, development agencies, the private sector, and/or international organizations. Ideally, you have worked in contexts associated with Asia and the Pacific. As part of this post, you will collaborate in applying for research funds to Swiss and EU agencies.


Your profile

We are looking for candidates with a doctoral degree in sociology or a closely related social science discipline with a strong interest and track record in sustainability studies, experience in interdisciplinary programs, and a publication record corresponding to your academic trajectory. You must be committed to academic excellence and value collegiality, diversity, interdisciplinary and cooperation. Native or near-native fluency in English and German are prerequisite. French language skills would be a plus. Ideally, you have fieldwork experience in a lower middle or low income country.
