Job Description


The Executive Director (ED), EEMEA Regional Medical Director, drives the strategy and execution of Medical plans in the countries of the assigned region. The ED reports to the Vice President, Lead Ex-US.

Core elements to enabling success in this role will include:



  • Guide country Medical staff to execute the annual Medical plan for the assigned therapeutic area

  • Ensure execution of agreed medical tactics and leverage best practices

  • Ensure scientific exchange is aligned with the global scientific communications platform

  • Partner with regional cross-functional teams to drive development and execution of region plans

  • Consolidate actionable medical insights from countries within the region

  • Engage with a network of scientific leaders and other key stakeholders (therapeutic guideline committees, payers, public groups, government officials, medical societies) from within their region

  • Support, as the regional therapeutic area expert, affiliates’ staff in engagement with their national scientific leaders

  • Organize regional expert input events to answer the company’s questions on how to implement new medicines through advisory boards and expert input forums

  • Organize regional symposia and educational meetings

  • Support countries with the development of local data generation study concepts and protocols

  • Review investigator-initiated study proposals prior to headquarters submission

  • Manage regional programs (patient support, educational, or risk management) to support appropriate and safe utilization of the company’s medicines

  • Ensure implementation of Medical Affairs initiatives by Country Medical Directors


Education and Qualifications:



  • Medical Doctor (MD) required

  • Proven expertise in the biopharmaceutical industry

  • Extensive and proven competency in developing and leading in-country or regional Medical Affairs organizations

  • Strength engaging with regional stakeholders to contribute to the shaping of the global Medical Affairs strategy, and then adapting the global Medical Affairs strategy to the region

  • Deep knowledge of the relevant regional healthcare environment

  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong peer-to-peer relationships with Key Scientific Leaders and other stakeholders

  • Scientific and clinical acumen with expertise in translation of clinical studies and emerging science into clinical practice in the region

  • Possess a thorough understanding of all compliance guidelines relevant to the biopharmaceutical industry and field medical roles

  • Be highly ethical and with a strong compliance record

  • Possess strong business and financial acumen

  • Ability to manage others through change, demonstrating poise under pressure and motivational leadership

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills with analytical, and results- oriented, project management skills

  • Broad knowledge of products and therapeutic areas
