Summary The Ocean Freight team is a dynamic and culturally diverse team, with strong values of communication and knowledge sharing. This position is an opportunity to join one of the major global dry bulk freight operators, shipping 55 million tons of cargoes per year, managing integrated activities of chartering, trading and market analysis. In a fast-paced trading-floor environment, this position requires high availability and flexibility to facilitate trades and engage with clients both internally and externally in a particular geographic region and/or vessel size segment. Occasional domestic and/or international travel to meet clients and attend shipping conventions is required (approximately three to four times per year)





Main Responsibilities
• Communicate with internal and external traders/clients/charterers and vessel owners/brokers to price freight; use FFA and analyze external price proposals to determine fair market prices; negotiate freight rates and other Charter Party contractual terms.

• Maximize execution and supervise operations to make sure best practices are in place. Liaise with the freight operations teams across the organization giving clear instructions.

• Using existing sales book and existing period fleet as a base, identify and execute arbitrage opportunities, on both tonnage and external cargo sides.

• Develop and build relationships with third party cargo and tonnage clients and identifies and pursues trading flows complimentary to LDC existing tonnage and cargo book.

• Utilize in-house research and knowledge to anticipate freight market demands and trends, both short and long term. Work with research team to further develop quantitative and fundamental indicators for us in forecasting price.

• Liaise with internal commodity teams to anticipate demand while ensuring smooth internal shipment program.

• Provide information on grain and minor bulk flows from market and internal commodity traders as well as competitor and supplier activities to the regional size team and/or the global team as applicable. Communicate relevant market information back to commodity traders also.





Experiences
• 4 to 7 years of relevant working experience in chartering/trading.

• Experience either under guidance of a regional head or as the leader of a geographic region for one of the size segments/ business areas, either implementing (if more junior) or developing specific business strategy and delivering (if more experienced) targeted commercial results.

• Experience in reviewing and analyzing commercial results for candidate’s business area, assessing successfulness in execution of business strategy and making future adjustments from the insights gained.

• Experience and/or interest in analyzing balance sheets and interacting with researchers to develop indicators and other fundamental and/or quantitative tool.

• Experience in / ability to interact on a daily/ongoing basis with other Atlantic regions as well as between Atlantic and Pacific basins to actively participate in period fleet repositioning.





Skills
• Strong knowledge of freight orientated estimation and operational software.

• Possess proficiency with MS office software particularly MS Excel.

• Strong understanding in performing advanced freight calculations, negotiating time charter and voyage charter party terms and arbitraging freight positions on spot and forward markets.

• Relationships / contact portfolio, which can be readily accessed to enhance to our existing business.

• Capacity and willingness to actively participate in the global trading positions and develop broader business strategy.
