Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems. The Department Environmental Social Sciences (ESS) invites applications for aPostdoctoral Position (100%, 2 years)Global environmental issues, such as climate change and resource scarcity, put pressure on conventional, centralized water and sanitation systems, which could be reduced through novel, decentralized water and sanitation systems. Since decentralized systems bring many benefits to society, governments might aim to increase their adoption through policies that mandate their use for a part of the population. The interdisciplinary project Fair Wings investigates factors that affect the public acceptability of such policies. The main focus is on the role of perceived costs, risks and benefits, and perceived distributive fairness.
For a postdoctoral position in the Fair Wings project, we are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated early-career scholar with an earned PhD in a relevant field of Psychology, preferably with a special focus on Environmental Psychology. Candidates should have a strong research record demonstrating their ability to publish international academic publications, experience with theory driven research with a clear eye for the practical implications, and a clear interest in collaborative interdisciplinary research. Excellent communication skills in English and preferably German, the ability to work independently and manage joint research activities, and skills in team work are essential.
The successful candidate will join the Fair Wings team and design and conduct expert interviews and questionnaire studies in San Francisco and Bangalore, where such adoption-policies are in place. You will publish the results of the studies in international scientific journals as well as popular magazines and newsletters, and present the studies at international conferences and to key stakeholders. You will be a member of the Environmental and Health Psychology cluster at Eawag and work in the interdisciplinary Fair Wings team together with researchers from social sciences, infrastructure planning, and engineering. Managing project activities and coordinating the collaboration between the team members will be one of your key tasks. The position is initially for 2 years. Depending on funding, a prolongation could be possible.
