Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.Our Department Environmental Social Sciences is offering aPostdoctoral Position (80-100%, 4 years)within the inter- and transdisciplinary Sinergia Project ‘Evidence-based Transformation in Pesticide Governance’. The research project strives to assess the potential for sustainable transformation in Swiss agriculture. It conducts research in five work packages and integrates expertise from environmental science and chemistry, agricultural economics, health sciences, decision-analysis, social and political sciences and inter- and transdisciplinary re-search to (1) analyse how evidence about pesticides evolved in the past (WP2); (2) assess different levels of pesticide exposure and associated health effects (WP3); and (3) analyse the role of targeted evidence on stakeholders’ attitudes and preferences towards pesticide use and regulation (WP4). WP1 and WP5 embrace the whole project, by developing a common conceptual framework, designing joint surveys and employing inter- and transdiscipli-nary methods (WP1), and producing scientific synthesis (WP 5).
The Postdoctoral position is situated at the interface between different disciplines and fields. Contributing to science integration, stakeholder involvement (WP1) and synthesis (WP5), the position requires panoptic perspectives and strong interactions with all PhDs and Postdocs involved in the project as well as with stakeholders from policy and practice. Candidates should be open-minded, creative, curious, and motivated to work in an inter- and transdisciplinary environment.
Successful candidates must have earned an excellent PhD in integrative studies (environmental studies, sustainable development) or management studies and must have experience in inter- and transdisciplinary research, and in the application of inter- and transdisciplinary methods. We expect good integrative skills, social and emotional intelligence, as well as an excellent command of the German, English and, if possible, French language.
