Pre-doctoral positions
Ref. 2020_040
Project description
The PhD positions are available in the Quantum Technology group in the field of Quantum Photonics at IBM Research Europe – Zurich. The positions are part of Swiss National Science Foundation and European Horizon 2020 funded projects targeting a new generation of nanomaterials-based quantum photonic devices. The projects involve the assembly of new nanomaterials (colloidal perovskite quantum dots), the in-depth characterization of their opto-electronic properties down to the single photon level as well as the design, fabrication and characterization of tunable and integrated microcavities where they can be embedded in the strong light-matter interaction regime. Scientific objectives are non-classical light emission, multi-photon states and the development of coupled, on-chip polaritonic logic gates for ultrafast all-optical logic circuitry. All projects will be hosted at IBM Research Europe in Rüschlikon, Switzerland, and comprise strong, interdisciplinary collaboration with external partners that are part of the respective project consortia.
Profile
Candidates should have an outstanding background in quantum physics and material science and should have acquired a Master’s degree in physical chemistry, material science, physics or photonic engineering with outstanding success. A strong background in clean-room processing, optical spectroscopy and knowledge of nanophotonic simulations and device characterization will be beneficial.
Job offers
IBM offers a 3-year fellowship in line with the terms and conditions of the respective European H2020 framework program or the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Diversity
IBM is committed to diversity at the workplace. With us you will find an open, multicultural environment. Excellent, flexible working arrangements enable all genders to strike the desired balance between their professional development and their personal lives.
