We are currently seeking a Technical Research Scientist for the SeedCare & Soil Screening Operations team in Stein. As a member of the team, you will carry out various experiments to support research projects in an experienced team within a continuously changing environment. Research on crop protection products and their behavior in soil is conducted at different scales from lab to controlled climate chambers and greenhouses at our research site in Stein (Canton of Aargau, close to Basel and the borders of Germany and France).

 Role Purpose: 

• Supports/carries out experiments/tests/tasks under supervision


• Contributions in scientific and operational functional/indication activities and projects

 Accountabilities: 

• Is fully responsible to independently plan, perform and report standard and non-standard tasks consisting of related steps and processes in discussion with scientific experts


• Records test data, enters data in systems using appropriate software and methods


• Records and communicates abnormalities and errors


• Documents experiments and test results and carries out first interpretation of data


• Responsible for cleanliness, functionality, security and usage of task related equipment, rooms and laboratories


• Responsible for organization of own laboratory and greenhouse work


• Further develops testing methods


• Drives for optimally high quality and efficiency in a given range of responsibility


• Seeks for continuous improvement


• Openness to new ideas and technology and actively proposes improvements


• May work in indication specific operational projects to improve efficiency and efficacy


• Ensure compliance of HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) to Syngenta standards, encourage and propagate best practice especially in the area of biosafety

 

Qualifications

 Requirements: 

• Apprenticeship in Chemistry (Laborant EFZ) or other technical discipline / BMS or BSc in agrobiology disciplines or equivalent professional education


• Background/experience in HPLC, UPLC, LCMS or similar and sample extraction and preparation techniques


• Background/experience in Microbiology is a plus


• Background/experience in working with soil is a plus


• Good English and German knowledge written and spoken (Level B1 or above)


• Interest in research topics, specially in the field of agriculture


• 2-3 years of experience in lab position
