Position Objectives



  • Leads Takeda’s environmental risk and regulatory compliance efforts through the development and implementation of Takeda’s Environmental Management System and appropriate programs, standards and tools

  • Subject matter expert (SME) for environmental regulatory compliance and risk management. Represents Corporate EHS for capital project reviews, property transfer due diligence assessments, negotiations with regulators, regulatory interpretations, environmental emergency response and remediation, etc.  

  • Monitors regulatory and technology changes to ensure that environmental compliance and risk are proactively and efficiently managed in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements, laws and regulations. 

  • Ensures that sites are adequately supported relative to environmental compliance and risk management issues by providing on-site and remote technical expertise, communities of practice and access to resources.


Accountabilities



  • Develop and implement programs to manage and mitigate environmental risks across the company.  Risks include, but not limited to, manufacturing emissions (including active pharmaceutical ingredients) to water and air, stormwater runoff, oil and hazardous material pollution, solid waste management, hazardous waste management, treatment and disposal, etc.

  • Environmental SME providing on-site and/or remote support for environmental matters including environmental permitting and regulatory compliance, environmental remediation, wastewater treatment plant design and operation, air pollution control permitting, environmental contamination abatement systems, capital projects, etc.

  • Develop and implement environmental policies, position papers, technical standards and training support (content and training plans) for effective implementation.

  • Represent Corporate EHS function as the single point of contact to conduct suitable EHS due diligence assessments for Takeda property transfer transactions (e.g., divestments, acquisitions, site closures, etc.)

  • Lead environmental community of practice and support development of stakeholders’ capabilities on relevant topics like environmental regulatory compliance, implementation of standards & requirements, remediation plans, air emissions, wastewater treatment, spill prevention, emergency response, etc.

  • Establishes appropriate internal controls and measurement systems to ensure environmental compliance and risk mitigation targets are met, areas of substandard performance are addressed and continuous improvement is achieved

  • Collaborate with Global Engineering in the development of environmental technical standards.

  • Supports Regional / OpU leads and sites with implementation of environmental SIF/pSIF Program , the completion of root cause investigations and the development of appropriate corrective and preventative actions to resolve site environmental compliance / risk control issues

  • Directly and indirectly support Takeda’s Environmental Sustainability Program

  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Skills



  • Degree in life sciences, engineering or similar field; 10+ years of experience in Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, or associated industry; previous experience leading teams across multiple locations;

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, regulatory agencies and vendors; previous experience in program management and demonstrated application of health and safety practices.

  • Expertise in worldwide environmental compliance, EHS risk management and development of environmental programs (waste, wastewater, air pollution, biodiversity, pharmaceuticals in the environment, etc..).
