USI invites applications for 3 positions in the Management stream of the Ph.D. program in
Economics.
The successful candidate will work as a teaching and research assistant at the Institute of
Management and Organization and will be supervised by one of the faculty members de-
pending on the area of research. The 3 positions are in the following areas:
Corporate strategy, governance, & stakeholder theory:
This position is part of a project funded by the Swiss National Fund aimed at studying the re-
lationship between corporate strategy, corporate governance, and stakeholder theory. The
ideal candidate will be interested in collecting data and analyzing large datasets to study the
interplay among these topics. A keen interest in quantitative empirical research is strongly
preferred. Previous experience as a research assistant and knowledge of programming lan-
guages (e.g., Stata, R, Python) will be highly considered.

Culture and organizations' performance and evaluations:
This position is opened for students with a general interest in the inter-relationships between
cultural factors (such as language, values or norms), organizations' performance and their
evaluations by external audiences. The ideal candidate will be interested in collecting and
analysing large datasets to study these topics. A keen interest in quantitative empirical re-
search is strongly preferred. Knowledge of programming language (e.g. Stata, R, Python)
will be highly considered.

Management and Organizations:
Students with an interest in the study of the social mechanisms underlying the behavior of
organizations are particularly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be interested in
collecting and analyzing large data to gain a greater understanding of topics covered in ma-
jor journals in the field of management in general and organization theory in particular (e.g.,
Organization Science, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal).
A keen interest in quantitative empirical research is required. Knowledge of programming
languages (e.g., Stata, R, Python) will be highly considered.

With its emphasis on rigorous training and high-quality research, the Faculty of Economics at
USI provides a solid first step toward the development of a successful international academic
career. To satisfy the minimum criteria for consideration, applicants must have completed a

Master degree in management, economics, sociology, psychology, or closely related fields
prior to joining the program. The official language of the Ph.D. program is English. Admission
to the Ph.D. program is highly competitive. Admission decisions are based on the candi-
dates' background, interests, attitude and potential for academic achievement. Successful
enrollment in the PhD is hardly compatible with a further professional activity.

names of two academic references that can be contacted for more information for the short-
listed candidates. In addition, candidates shall include in the application a short letter dis-
cussing interest, motivation, and fit with the position. In the letter, students should indicate
