The Position


As a Research Associate, you will join the CIT-3 Department at Roche Innovation Center Zurich (Schlieren, Switzerland) and interact closely with a team of associates and scientists working on novel classes of cancer immunotherapy agents. You will focus on performing in vitro biological assays to characterize the activity of new molecules.



The principal responsibilities will include:



  • Maintenance of in vitro cell cultures

  • PBMC isolation

  • Supporting the work of senior scientists by performing in vitro assays based on tumor/immune cell cultures and co-cultures

  • Assessment of antibody binding, antibody-mediated tumor cell killing, T cell suppression, immune cell phenotyping, assessment of activation, proliferation and cytokine secretion

  • Routine quality controls of molecules and batches

  • Data analysis and interpretation, contribution to preparation of scientific presentations and writing of scientific reports

  • Presentation of generated data packages in department and project team meetings

  • Laboratory manager responsibilities including daily lab routine, ordering supplies, monitoring inventory and contracts will also be required

  • A strong commitment and support of the ongoing automation attempts and data storage


The position is permanent and with a work load of 100%.

For this position you bring the following qualifications:



  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in (Tumor-) Immunology with recent research experience in cell biology or tumor immunology

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, PBMC and mouse organ cell isolation and handling

  • Excellent experience with tumor cell and immune cell cultures and co-cultures, various cell biology techniques and state-of-the art immunoprofiling techniques for functional characterization of immune cell responses
    (8-10 color multiparametric analysis by flow cytometry using BD Fortessa and Canto II as well as MACS Quant X and iQue), MACS sorting, ELISA, luminescence reporter cell line-based assays, beneficial: work experience with HTP fluorescence microscope imaging using IncuCyte)

  • Good written and verbal English is mandatory

  • Good skills in Microsoft office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), FlowJo, GraphPad Prism; beneficial: experience with SpotFire, basic knowledge of “R”, Google-based office software (e-mails, calendar, Google-Drive and Doc documents)

  • Reliable and organized lab work and maintenance following security, safety, health and environment guidelines and standard operating procedures of RICZ, whereby a proactive culture of feedback, fair discussion is highly recommended to reduce unnecessary workload while improving work flow and reliability of data.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to work effectively and independently within a diverse group of people

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to take initiative and work according to time-lines
