The position:

We are offering a Research Associate position in our Roche Innovation Center in Basel.

This position is sponsored by the Center of Excellence in Human Translational Bioengineering. The center conducts dedicated research focused on organoids, organs on a chip, other promising human translational models, and the use of synthetic biology and genome editing to advance human model systems, in order to advance our ability to develop new medicines with greater predictability. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals, if necessary preceded by priority patent applications.

As a Research Associate you will focus on an exploratory research project titled 'Elucidating the molecular pathophysiology in neuro-degeneration in human cerebral organoids (3D) models in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD)'.

In this position, you will:

  • Perform genome editing of risk genes of Alzheimer and Parkinson disease in human pluripotent stem cells to model Alzheimer and Parkinson disease

  • Establish and characterize 3D human cerebral organoids models of an Alzheimer’s disease and a Parkinson’s disease risk gene by developing state of the art standardized operating protocols

  • Seek to identify the normal physiological function of these risk genes and the pathways impacted by the disease associated mutations in individual cell types

Who are we looking for?

You are an experienced professional in the field of cell biology or molecular biology. You have 6+ years of experience after an apprenticeship or 3+ years of experience with a Master degree. And you have experience and expertise in the following:

  • Cell culture of human cell lines, pluripotent stem cells and primary cells

  • Molecular biology with experience in Genome editing is a plus
