Senior Visual Analytics Manager

The Senior Visual Analytics Manager is responsible for aligning the practice of medical data review consistently across all Roche/Genentech sites and therapeutic areas. The Visual Analytics team enables Clinical Scientists and Safety Scientists to efficiently and effectively review clinical data from clinical trials conducted across the globe. The Senior Visual Analytics Manager is an expert in data visualization and a champion in leveraging visual analytics for clinical data.


The VA team manages the implementation of medical data review regarding both processes and application of tools (e.g. Spotfire) for Scientists by providing training, development of best practice and dedicated support. The person in this job optimizes the implementation of medical data review by being an integral member of the Global Visual Analytics team

  • Leads support for medical data review

  • Acts as a main point of contact for Clinical Scientists and Safety Scientists with questions on medical data review processes and documentation, or safety data review

  • Develops, delivers, and guides the use of Spotfire visualizations to conduct medical data review

  • Acts as the main point of contact for Data Quality Leaders and Informatics

  • Provides guidance on the usage of the Medical Data Review Plan template

  • Ensures the requirements of Scientists are met with regard to medical and safety data review

  • Provides training for medical data review tools

  • Delivers desk-side training for Clinical Scientists conducting medical data review using Spotfire as a data visualization tool

  • Assists with the access process to medical data review tools (e.g. Spotfire)

  • Ensures Scientists understand the data source(s) used for report generation

  • Contributes to the co-ownership of the training materials for conducting medical data review

  • Updates materials as systems undergo changes and alerts Scientists appropriately

  • Provides input into the global development of best practice for medical and safety data review

  • Promotes knowledge sharing in Scientists community to improve medical and safety data review best practice

  • Provides input into the development of best practices of using Spotfire for medical and safety data review

  • Proactively gathers change requests for new/different report objects or changes in processes or standard templates

  • Supports the set up and maintenance of Spotfire report objects built per study

  • Encourages and champions standard report objects wherever possible

  • Proactively incorporates learning and recommendations from users

  • Contributes to activities for improving and maintaining the quality and effectiveness of tools

  • Participates in local and/or global initiatives that focus on the data review

  • Partners with Scientists in proposing creation/revision of report objects

  • Maintains oversight of external available tools and functionality

  • Fosters and promotes a collaborative, team-oriented approach with the Visual Analytics team and with the Scientists that they support


Who you are


You bring evidence of ability to collate and interpret clinical science information and general knowledge of the drug development process. In addition, you bring:



  • University/College degree (advanced degree preferred)

  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical data or clinical trials conduct required

  • Prior experience with Spotfire, or other reporting/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, etc.) required

  • Prior experience with advanced programming skills (e.g., IronPython, R) preferred

  • Evidence of sound computer skills

  • Evidence of being able to deliver effective training

  • Demonstrable critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Evidence of excellent communication, interpersonal skills

  • Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize assignments efficiently

  • Evidence of ability to work independently as well as part of a team
