Dry Bulk Shipping Operator

Job Description


The job holder activities are split into a main activity consisting in performing all operations in relation to the vessels chartered (“Post-fixture”) and 2 other activities as described below:



  1.  Post-fixture management



  • Operate the charter-parties from the loading to the discharging port in the most possible efficient way; anticipate the contractual and financial implications of operational events and opportunities. This implies a permanent communication with port agents, ship-owners and/or ship-brokers, the operators and the dry product traders.

  • Issue loading & voyage instructions, appoint shipping agents, etc…

  • Negotiate demurrage & despatch costs with the ship-owners

  • Checks freight and demurrage invoices and coordinate with charterers, middle-office and back-office for their payment and ensure consistency with the book reporting

  • Thoroughly follows and checks the various contractual deadlines / time-bars of the charter-parties and contracts of affreightment

  • Carefully record the activity and maintain up to date files (also needed for audit purposes).

  • To be proactive in the problems resolution as berthing delays, customs, LOI setup with Owners/Receivers.



  1.  Dry products trading operations, replacing the dry products Trading Operator in his absence (holiday, missions…):



  • Operates the Sale & Purchase contracts negotiated by the traders by ensuring continuous liaison with cargo suppliers & receivers and in-house traders in order to have the cargo delivered to/by TGPL from the supplier/to the receiver in the most possible efficient way (in view of economics and under market/physical constraints).

  • Receives and issues documentary instructions, handle B/L’s & shipping documents, nominates independent inspectors, etc…

  • Coordinates with the legal department, finance department (payment guarantees), Middle & Back Office (book and invoicing).

The job holder will also participate to a weekly duty roaster and may be required to participate to a crisis cell in case of major incident.

The job holder is the key interface between the charterers, the operators and the ship-owners for the vessels chartered, to transport highly valuable commodities between the loading and discharging ports (petcoke, sulphur …). He may also be involved in other logistic/trading operations. 



The purpose of the Shipping Operator is to optimize the voyages and the profitability of each vessel (consumption, time used...) in compliance with the contracts and internal procedures.
