SNF-Postdoc (80-100%) in Health Communication

We look for a Postdoc researcher who will work on the main project "Developing standards
for institutional health communication during public health emergencies. Learning from
information around COVID-19 pandemic as a case in point", newly financed by the Swiss
National Science Foundation, under the call for research on COVID-19. The overall objective is to develop standards for institutional communication of health information during public health emergencies, with a focus on how to guide people's risk perception and behavior and to combat misinformation. This project will adopt a mix-method approach. It will be subdivided in an analytical phase and a normative phase. The analytical phase will be devoted to the description of institutional health communication around the COVID-19 outbreak, what and how it has been communicated by institutions, how it was reported by the news media and received by the public. The normative phase will entail the creation of a toolkit on how to best deliver health information during public health emergencies and in contexts characterized by misinformation.

Responsibilities

  • Your core activities will be to do qualitative studies with stakeholders of institutional communication, content-analyses of online information, a survey of the population and a Delphi study to develop the toolkit.

  • You will have the opportunity to work together with researchers from diverse backgrounds, especially in health system research, psychology, behavioural sciences, economics, political sciences, medicine and rehabilitation.

  • You will be able to contribute your own ideas and interests in different projects.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD in one of the following disciplines: communication sciences, social sciences, (social) media studies, humanities or another related or relevant field.

  • You have at least 1-3 years of work experience in conceptual and empirical research. Main skills are requested especially in qualitative research.

  • You are proficient in German and English (both written and verbal). Proficient knowledge of French and Italian is another asset.

  • You have a proven track record that demonstrates your ability to independently conduct empirical studies from the design, data collection and analysis.

  • You are familiar with thematic analysis, qualitative and quantitative content analysis, and Delphi studies.

What we offer

  • You will be provided with excellent working conditions as a member of a stimulating and productive team in health communication, and will have the chance to build or reinforce an attractive post-doc curriculum.

  • You will have the opportunity to contribute to the research group and to the Department by introducing your own ideas.

  • This project will run in partnership with Swiss Paraplegic Research, an extra-university research establishment of national and international importance. This will give you the opportunity to engage with its researchers in a lively and productive interdisciplinary environment.

  • Your current position will be limited to 2 years.

  • You will be provided with an office at the University of Lucerne.
