Computational Biologist for Biomedicine

100%

The University of Basel is a world leader in biomedical sciences, with many close collaborations between basic research and clinical application. We are recruiting a computational biologist to complement ongoing research in this domain. The research groups of Professor Markus Heim at the Department of Biomedicine and Professor Michael Hall at the Biozentrum work together on closely related research questions in (hepatocellular) oncology. We invite applications for a computational biologist (100%) to support quantitative research in these two research groups. The position will be embedded in the Hall and Heim labs, and hosted by sciCORE – the center for scientific computing at the University of Basel.

Your position

The successful candidate will provide consulting and execute data analysis in research projects undertaken by the Hall and Heim labs. We expect close coordination regarding experimental design, and a leadership role in applying appropriate statistical, computational, and data visualization methods towards scientific publications. You will join a team of data analysts at sciCORE, which will formally host the position. Some participation in the general scientific support activities of sciCORE is expected.

Your profile

Our ideal candidate has a strong experience (postdoctoral level) in bioinformatics, statistics, and biomedical sciences, with a specific interest in computational oncology. Advanced fluency in working with *omics data and Python and/or R are required. Previous work involving the integration of complex *omics data sets (including proteomics) and familiarity with state of the art machine learning frameworks will be an asset. We expect our candidate to be flexible, proactive, and capable of following several projects in parallel.

We offer you

You will be part of world-leading research groups at the forefront of molecular oncology research. External collaborations and authorship in publications can be expected. At sciCORE, you will collaborate closely with a team of data analysts active in various domains (from biostatistics to astrophysics), and benefit from membership in the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. sciCORE also collaborates closely with the bioinformatics community locally, nationally, and internationally.

We support our team members in their own training, networking and career development. The University of Basel is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer committed to excellence through diversity.

The position will be offered for an initial two-year period, with the option for extension.
