Research Associate - In vitro safety models automation

Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) is a global function within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) enabling discovery and early development of drug candidates in support of a diverse portfolio of small molecules, complex therapeutic proteins, oligonucleotides and gene therapies.


Within the PS organization, for our Investigative Safety Department in Basel we are currently seeking for a motivated Research Associate with a strong drive and dedicated to make a difference. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary and innovative team of scientists playing a key role in advancing preclinical safety assessment with a focus on cancer therapeutics.


This position is fixed term to 1 year with the possibility of permanent position.


In this position, you will:



  • Develop, implement and optimize automated human primary multi-cell co-culture-based assays focusing on immunology/oncology.


  • Design, execute, analyze and optimize cell culture based experiments.


  • Design and implement processes to handle, analyze and interpret generated data and derive conclusions from experimental outcomes.


  • Document and present results within a multidisciplinary team.


  • Contribute to innovate and improve our methods and processes.



What do you need to be successful in this role?



  • Training as a Lab Technician, BSc or MSc in biology, bioengineering or related field.


  • Proven practical experience in cell biology, immunology or biotechnology.


  • Hands on experience with in vitro assay setup and laboratory automation (including liquid handling automation) is a must.


  • Good understanding of immunology is highly desired.


  • Programming skills in one or more programming languages widely used in the scientific community is highly advantageous (e.g. Matlab, R, Python...)


  • Willingness to tackle both new and routine tasks.


  • Scientific curiosity, dedication and good organization skills.


  • Problem solving oriented demeanor.


  • Fluent in English, coupled with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team are essential.
