To support that challenge, we are currently seeking a Head of Sustainable and Responsible Business dedicated to the EAME region.
In this role you will lead Sustainable and Responsible Business (SRB) in the region developing a proactive agenda that protects Syngenta Freedom to Operate (FTO), creating immediate value to our business, managing risk and ensuring longevity of Syngenta portfolio. Build trust in Syngenta by linking our technical innovation strategy to the larger societal sustainability agenda.
You will be Member of the EAME Business Sustainability Management Team and Member of the global Sustainable and Responsible Leadership Team.
Accountabilities
Strategy development
Establish and lead the SRB EAME Agenda, well integrated with regional business and the global SRB agenda
Develop stewardship measures for Syngenta key products
Advice on sustainability strategies as part of development/commercial/branding approaches.
Build links to sustainable sourcing priorities of key value chain accounts.
Through horizon scanning, allow identification of new sustainability trends and expectations
Ensure sustainability is embedded in all business decisions
Thought leadership and external representation
Position Syngenta as agricultural thought leader who develops technology solutions to maximize land productivity, provides food for a growing population and promotes rural development
Develop thought leadership platforms, project partnerships, regular formal and informal engagement with relevant stakeholders
Effective use of multiple media channels, public engagements and publications
Act as a leading external spokesperson and company representative in specialized forums in the countries, working with and closely supporting SRB coordinators at country level.
Represent Syngenta in respective trade association fora.
Operational excellence
Lead a team of 7 managers, based in various locations. Secure appropriate budget and resources
Ensure clear, individual plans are in place which deliver against each pillar of the regional SRB strategy
Share and align on strategic SRB priorities with the global SRB Leadership Team
Develop and maintain management processes to align the SRB organization within the EAME Crop Protection Leadership Teams, in particular new technologies function (shared objectives)
Develop effective engagement mechanisms across the countries, with targeted plans co-owned by different parts of the local organizations (identify local owners’ case by case)
Contribute to BPR process, ensure an effective crisis management system across the region.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally come with the following background and skillset
Minimum education and critical knowledge required
Bachelor/ Master’s degree;
Good understanding of the political, social, and cultural complexity and diversity in countries
Good understanding of Syngenta’s business (or capability to quickly build the understanding)
Understanding of the agronomy/technical background to our sustainability solutions
Experience and capabilities required
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a technical/commercial leadership position with a good understanding of the marketing, regulatory, advocacy and brand & reputation dimensions which impact our business (must be an expert in at least one of these areas)
Experience in establishing and maintaining strong internal & external relationships across boundaries and cultures, ability to interact with diverse environments
Experience of issues management & crisis communications
Ability to develop impactful sustainability strategies for the countries and to turn them into executable plans
Strong oral and written communications skills, external representation
Entrepreneurial, decisive, high level of crisis tolerance, resilient
