We are currently searching for a2 year fixed term Postdoctoral fellowship candidate for our Biology – Seedcare Research department, a vacancy which offers the opportunity to develop new skills while working at the cutting edge of science and innovation. We are seeking a Scientist to lead a series of capability development programs to identify next generation agrochemical technologies to promote soil health and an optimized bioavailability in soil. The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment and support the existing team in current Chemical Research Projects with scientific questions related to the factors influencing the bioavailability of research compounds in soil and their effects on soil health.


Postdoctoral Fellow – Soil


Accountabilities:
 

  • To develop simple and efficient tools and biomarkers to evaluate the impact of research compounds on Soil Health

  • To support the biological screening platform with respect to scientific questions on the bioavailability of chemicals in soil

  • To design and carry out ad-hoc studies to evaluate the role of soil microbial communities on the bioavailability and performance of agrochemicals

  • To develop protocols to evaluate the soil microbial communities at different investigation scales, including lab, greenhouse and semi-field

  • To work closely with other experts and support the integration of different approaches: molecular, chemical and bioassays.

  • To support the data analysis and data-mining leading to clear scientific conclusions and recommendations.


What we expect
:
 

  • A PhD in soil/rhizosphere/microbial ecology. Further Post-doc experience in the above domains is desirable but not essential

  • Experience in the development and application of microbial profiling tools as well as in data-mining

  • Deep knowledge of Soil Science including Soil Chemistry

  • Understanding of degradation and retention processes of small molecules in soil and rhizosphere

  • Familiarity with basic analytical equipment and in soil sample preparation techniques

  • Proven skills to work at different investigation scales from lab to the field

  • Fluent English written and spoken (B2-C1 level) 

  • Innovative approach in solving problem

  • Flexible and strong teamwork, and able to work in a matrix environment

  • Ability to work and interact with colleagues from different functions, like chemistry, product safety and sustainable business.

  • Ability to translate or help to translate complex scientific questions in applicable mid-high through-put solutions
