Sr. Director, Human Resources - Europe

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Human Resources, Europe leads the human resources function in support of General Managers and commercial associates across Europe including Switzerland, United Kingdom (UK), Ireland, Nordics, Italy, Portugal, Spain, France and Germany. This is a complex and dynamic role that has a broad scope, touching all parts of the business and is integral to developing the HR team to achieve maximum contribution across the region.


The HR leader serves as consultant to Commercial VP of Europe and as a leader to a regional team of HR professionals. This role works across the commercial organization in these geographies, leading Human Resource Business Partners (HRBPs) to develop and execute HR strategy in support of the commercial business objectives including providing expertise and guidance in the areas of culture and change management, strategic coaching, talent assessment and development, succession planning, performance management, and organizational design. In addition, the Leader collaborates with Centre of Excellence (CoE) functions within Beckman Coulter Dx and regional Danaher to ensure the full range of people related processes (Recruitment, Talent Development, People Management, Performance Management, Learning Management and Compensation Management) are delivered with excellence. In addition, the role oversees activities supporting Diversity & Inclusion, employee relations, compliance, HR operational activities, local initiatives, and engagement.


What You Will Do:


Partner with Commercial VP Europe to develop and execute both long-term and short-term HR strategies that directly support and enable business objectives.



  • Creates and executes an HR strategy that supports and aligns with revenue growth and operating margin objectives, consistent with DBS growth, leadership and lean concepts.

  • Champion what we value, our culture and associate needs to drive engagement, promote retention, deliver effective communication and instill trust.

  • Guide and support the delivery of initiatives in support of Business and HR strategic priorities talent and career development, succession planning, and Organization Talent Assessments.

  • Support the effective delivery and implementation of HR Processes and people related activities to drive achievement of business goals, initiatives and strategies.

  • Sustain momentum in key processes around engagement, from analysis, communication, feedback and action planning

  • Attracts, develops, retains and rewards high quality talent to build a continuous pipeline to support the growth objectives, opportunities and strategies of Core Histology.

  • Act as an organizational coach, who builds organizational capabilities, reduces complexity and partners with the business to maximize team performance and implement the most effective organizational structures

  • Facilitates organization design and leadership development efforts, continuously improving organizational effectiveness with the overarching objective to drive growth.

  • Provide timely, effective and direct coaching to leaders, assisting in the development of world class, contemporary leadership skills

  • Provide strategic coaching to key employees as related to succession planning, career path development, and performance management

  • Has personal ownership for key HR metrics (recruitment, development, retention, etc.) and works with leaders to dive to root cause and develop and execute appropriate counter-measures where needed

  • Implements and tracks metrics toward key local and global HR objectives, policies, processes and programs. Analyzes trends and takes action.

  • Inspire change and process improvements through identifying non-added value or non-HR related activity, streamline transactional to enable a focus on high value contribution activities to better serve the business priorities. Champion continuous improvement, participate in site/HR projects that deliver improvements across HR and HR service delivery

  • Partner with Global HRBP's/Leaders to support implementation of strategic initiatives and delivery of local actions needed to support.

  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations and compliance issues through a logical and systematic approach. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations when required.

  • Provides HR policy development, interpretation and guidance

Scope:



  • Six Direct Reports, Team of 20 HR associates across Europe

  • Associate Population of 850 in Commercial Operations (based in the UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Netherland, Germany, Austria, Nordics, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy)

  • Oversees the HR support for local functions including global marketing, Finance, IT, Legal, Q&RA, Operations, as well as Beckman Coulter Life Sciences organization

  • Total Revenue for Region: $500 Million.

Essential Qualifications/Education:



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, Graduate degree in related field preferred

  • Minimum of 18 years of professional experience in a variety of Human Resource positions with increasing scope

  • Extensive experience in Human Resources Management leadership within a large multinational global private (for profit) organization.

  • Have a strong appreciation of what it takes to develop and nurture relationships with work council, unions, work authorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively in matrix organization

  • Proven track record driving and implementing strategic initiatives.

  • Continuous improvement mindset.

  • Customer Service oriented – high sense of urgency

  • Results oriented – has track record for delivery results, takes ownership and is accountable

  • Strong experience in managing people and teams.

  • Experience in Regional / multi-site leadership

  • Experience partnering with leaders and handling complex issues across multi-site and multi-function.

  • Broad understanding of the technical and functional components of Human Resources, including: employment law, employee relations, compliance management in a large organization, compensation, employee relations, recruitment, talent management, absence management, organizational planning, leadership development, coaching, training, engagement and building trust.

  • Complex problem solving through data analytics, in addition to collaborating with leaders to drive and support sound business decisions.

  • Developed (oral and written) communication and diplomacy skill set with the ability to influence others by presenting sound and logical arguments tailored to the audience



  • Supported an environment where employee engagement priority and brings evidence of success in driving the numbers to new highs, because of initiatives set forth. 

  • Demonstrated success in organizational design and change management (initiating, planning, leading, implementing), preferably in a matrixed environment

  • Proven success in developing HR talent for higher level roles

  • Coaching and leadership assessment experience

  • Embraces and thrives on challenge and stretch goals

  • Ability to work in changing environments, see through complexity and strategically promote an inclusive/diverse workforce

  • Demonstrated ability to drive the HR strategic agenda using knowledge of the organization and its employees
