Data Scientist intern (Student) Job Description The Job is a healthy mix of hands-on exploratory and process driven work combined with an equal opportunity to work closely with business stakeholders, acquire valuable knowledge about how the business is setup in general and a detailed understanding of the systems that support the business. The intern will be expected to act as a key support resource for helping to assess, identify and resolve DQ issues for the Data Science teams in conjunction with the rest of the Data Quality team. We need him to have: • Strong understanding of Python and its supporting libraries (ideally with hands on experience with using this programming language). • Strong understanding of statistical techniques, CI/CD principles and a technical bent of mind with a natural affinity for learning the technical aspects of the role will also be viewed favorably. The Day to Day activities will be broadly divided into three areas: Data Science Native This activity is expected to bring real value to the overall scope and scale of the Data Quality Activity and is something that offers great potential. The Data Scientists use a combination of open stack tools to execute their use cases which includes an expert understanding and knowledge of Python (and all its underlying libraries) amongst other statistical (Pandas) and deployment methods such as Docker Containers, Jenkins, Artefactory and so on. Data Quality Analyst This will form the core of the work that is expected from the candidate. It involves fully engaging and working closely with the Data Quality team to understand the challenges and also formulate and execute the plans to address the issues. This will require a broad understanding of the following: - Ability to understand, maintain and write code is necessary (SQL is a must) - Information systems (relational, non-relational) - Data management protocols (governance in the context of Data lifecycle) - Data quality methods and techniques (syntactic, semantic) - Reporting and visualization tools (Power BI preferred) - Platform specific knowledge (AWS Cloud preferred). - Any experience and/or knowledge of designing and building Webapps would be excellent Business Analysis This activity will support the bulk of the work that has been described above. It involves engagement with the business to gather requirements, analyze them and figure out the best way forward. This will require a self-starter who is inquisitive, curious, eager to learn and not afraid to ask relevant meaningful questions. This activity will bring the intern face to face with business stakeholders which offers an invaluable opportunity to learn and understand business processes and why/how they are designed. Background The Data Quality Team at Philip Morris supports enterprise wide demand for ensuring all data is of sufficiently high quality. This includes (but not restricted to) structured transactional, analytical and master data (with IoT to follow). The need for high quality data is pervasive across the PMI data landscape and therefore the need to manage this demand in a cogent, effective manner is imperative. The Team has consequently designed a bespoke data quality framework that supports the varied nature of the demand that exists within the organization and also strategically positions Data Quality as a Service for all stakeholders.
