250! That’s the number of data scientists leading a digital revolution at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR).
The Analytical Sciences and Imaging (ASI) department at NIBR is a group of ‘omics and imaging experts that drives technological innovation across the institute by supporting project teams with cutting-edge proteomics, metabolomics, and imaging readouts to drive drug discovery and validation. We are looking for an experienced computational scientist to work closely with our wet-lab and other dry-lab scientists in these endeavors.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Working closely with wet- and dry-lab collaborators to design, analyze, and interpret high-dimensional datasets such as proteomics, metabolomics, and imaging studies. Communicating findings to drug-discovery researchers of diverse scientific backgrounds.
• Take a leading role in shaping global initiatives of the ASI data science team and work with Novartis data science community to enable cross department data sharing and integration.
• Develop and maintain state-of-the-art data processing pipelines and train/support associates in the use of these and other data analysis tools.
• Keep ahead of scientific literature and interact with internal and external scientists to integrate novel data science technologies.
Minimum requirements
What you’ll bring to the role:
• Advanced degree or equivalent experience in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, machine learning, data science, or related field.
• Fluent English both spoken and written
• Three or more years of experience in analyzing ‘omics or biological imaging datasets in a drug discovery/development or relevant academic setting alongside excellent scientific communication skills and effective data visualization skills.
• Significant experience in R or Python, competency working in a Linux/Unix environment and knowledge about best practices for computational science – source code version control, documentation, etc.
Desired:
• Experience with designing analysis pipelines / workflows.
• Experience with using machine-learning techniques to mine biological datasets for actionable hypotheses.
• Demonstrated use of interactive data visualization frameworks (e.g., Shiny) to visualize high-dimensional data.
