The Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) is operated by ETH Zurich and is located in Lugano, in the south of Switzerland. CSCS develops and provides the key supercomputing capabilities required to solve important problems to science and/or society.
The High-Performance Computing (HPC) Operations unit is responsible for the management of multiple supercomputing systems, clusters for different customers and OpenStack based cloud environments.
We are looking for multiple Systems Engineers with strong software engineering skills to provide operational support to CSCS' rapidly expanding HPC and cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities include developing, managing, monitoring and troubleshooting systems, network and storage infrastructure. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for automating system management and operation tasks including security updates and patches targeted at higher availability and reliability of services.
The position is permanent (with an initial probation period of three months). The starting date is as soon as possible. You will benefit from a competitive salary based on experience and performance.
The candidate is expected to have an undergraduate/bachelor degree in computer science or equivalent experience. A proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux-based environments is a must. Experience with automation software such as Puppet or Ansible is highly desirable. The candidate must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the software development lifecycle including continuous integration, testing and deployment for ensuring high availability and security compliant operational targets. Expert knowledge of programming languages such as Python or Go is a plus.
Additional highly desirable academic qualifications, technical skills and experiences include graduate and post-graduate degrees in computer science, deployment experience with Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) technologies like OpenStack, container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, private and public cloud environments, Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions, parallel and object storage stacks, Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) and tape library technologies, and a proven record for maintaining high-availability and secure operational services in a data centre environment.
