The Institute of Construction and Infrastructure Management is situated within the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. We are seeking a motivated person to work with the Chair of Innovative and Industrial Construction under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Daniel M. Hall on the subject of entrepreneurship and new business models for digital fabrication and robotics.
The general theme of the research position is a future-oriented investigation of entrepreneurship for digital fabrication and robotics (dfab) in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC). The research will specifically look at the opportunities and challenges for start-up or existing firms to adopt new dfab technologies and innovations. This includes the study of:
This position is a part of a new research initiative within the National Centre for Competence in Research Digital Fabrication (www.dfab.ch) to assess the future socio-economic impact of digital fabrication on the AEC sector. The position is expected to collaborate with ongoing research to investigate the work and organizational parameters of dfab for construction, taking into consideration the changing technological, economic and societal demands and opportunities. The research will include specific study of NCCR projects as case studies.
Within the context of the research theme, applicants are welcome in their letter of motivation to describe their own specific interests and/or ideas to apply these areas of emphasis.
The successful candidates should hold an MSc degree with a background in civil engineering, architecture, construction management, economics, industrial engineering, supply chain management, mechanical engineering, or organizational design and behavior. Experience in the construction industry and with entrepreneurship for new technologies will be beneficial but not required. Applicants are encouraged to apply, even if they do not meet all the above criteria. Fluent communication skills (written and presentation) in English are essential. The starting date is anticipated in autumn of 2020 or as mutually agreed upon by both parties.
