JOB DESCRIPTION

You are a key member in the engineering team involved in the development of market leading opto-electronical color and appearance measurement devices including spectrophotometers, colorimeters, embedded sensors and spectral imaging systems. In addition to the engineering teams in Switzerland and the US you will also work closely with the operations team in Asia.



Essential Job Functions:



1. Result and responsibility orientated management of complex R&D projects with interdisciplinary and cross-functional, globally distributed teams (new products and modifications of existing products.) The teams consist of highly qualified researchers, developers, and might include sub-project managers.
2. Lead projects from concept to delivery. Ensure alignment across the different functions of the project team including management of the interface to the manufacturing department and product marketing.
3. Own and drive key project metrics (performance, time line, quality, product cost, development cost); manage risk. Use of metrics for steering projects efficiently. Always be prepared for backup plan to come back on track if needed.
4. Take an active role in the product inception and definition. Close collaboration with marketing and OEM sales. Participate in product specifications and product design reviews. Understand customer needs, drive VOC (voice of the customer) work together with marketing. Together with product managers prepare product proposals and business cases and lead gate-review meetings.
5. Develop, negotiate and manage product specification.


What we expect from you:


Education 



  • Bachelor or master degree in physics, electrical- or mechanical engineering


Experiences/Attributes



  • At least 5 years of professional experience in product development as a developer and additional as a project manager for multidisciplinary projects (e.g. electronics, mechanics, software) in a technology industry

  • Engaging Leader, experienced to work cross-functionally and lead multi-cultural teams without a solid reporting line

  • Proven track record in managing new product development projects from concept phase through industrialization and production

  • Effectively proposes and executes pragmatic solutions to deliver projects in time while meeting budget and performance goals

  • At ease with the entire project management toolbox (e.g., task-, cost-, resource-, timeline-, risk-management and requirement engineering)

  • Good business sense and practical knowledge in dealing with customers and/or suppliers.

  • Strong analytical skills, i.e. able to structure and document complex topics in short time and derive the right decisions

  • Performance- and result-driven attitude

  • Persistence, high energy level, able to act in challenging and adverse situations

  • Strong will to deliver high-quality, cost-effective products on time

  • Self-starter with the ability to develop his network across the organization

  • Enjoys working in a multidisciplinary, multicultural and international environment (Switzerland, US, Asia)

  • Strong problem solving skills, continuous improvement mindset

  • Fluent in written and spoken German and English



The following skills would be a plus:



  • Experience in a domain where Color plays an important role

  • Experience in the measurement instrument industry

  • Understanding of digital imaging and media, printing products and markets, color standards, and mobile computing products and markets

  • Knowledge about all lean aspects

  • Experience in DfX topics

  • Experience with product development for production in China

  • Experience in intellectual property

  • Project management certification
