For the UCN Physics group we are looking for aPhD StudentThe PhD project will be performed at PSI with graduation from ETH Zurich, Department of PhysicsYour tasksA new project to search for a neutron electric dipole moment - n2EDM - has started at PSI, searching for a signal of beyond-Standard-Model physics. The new experimental apparatus is being set up at the ultracold neutron (UCN) source. Delivering the highest UCN intensity is a crucial aspect for the success of n2EDM. You will work on further characterization and improvement of the UCN output of the facility and work on the new project to upgrade the UCN source. You will study with experiments and simulation new lay-outs of UCN source components. You will participate with specific tasks in the setup, commissioning, running and analysis of the n2EDM experiment.Your profileWe seek a talented and ambitious candidate who is highly motivated to work on this competitive project in a well-established research team, and within an international collaboration.
Master degree in Physics
High interest in fundamental physics
Good level of English as working language in spoken and written form is mandatory
Knowledge of German or willingness to quickly learn German is a plus

Practical experience in experimental work and hardware setup will be considered as an asset
Programming skills, at least at a basic level, are required
