For a joint project between the Nuclear Fuels Group of the Laboratory for Nuclear Materials and the Applied Materials Group of the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and Imaging, we are looking for aPhD StudentNeutron radiography investigations of hydrogen redistribution in irradiated zirconium claddingsYour tasks
Be involved in preparing radioactive specimens of irradiated fuel claddings from Swiss nuclear power plants for neutron imaging
Optimization of processes (handling, positioning of specimens) and interplay between sample conditioning and detector development at the neutron imaging beam line
Interpret experimental data and develop an understanding of hydrogen diffusion and precipitation in irradiated fuel claddings
Publish results in high-ranking international journals and reputed conference proceedings and write a PhD thesis on the topic
Your profile
Hold a Master degree in physics, chemistry or materials science
Highly interested in nuclear materials research
Prior work experiences with radioactive specimens are a strong asset
Also interested in computer modelling work for the interpretation of experimental data
English proficiency (both speaking and writing), German is advantageous
Interest to work in a team, in a multi-disciplinary and international environment
