Hiring team/group description:
Our engineering team is part of the Corporate Architecture department and develops and supports the Linux OS and Linux Cloud products for Oracle. In particular the team we are recruiting for is responsible for the Linux Toolchain, Tracing and some Oracle Cloud components.
Position:
Toolchain Engineer (glibc, gcc, gdb, binutils, go, etc) in Linux Environment and
Oracle Cloud Developer Image maintainer.
General:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual contributor who feels
passionate about coding and delivering the best product possible.
As part of daily activities, the position involves improving the performance and
stability of the GNU toolchain on Linux. This entails working in part with the GNU tools open source communities, such as gcc, gdb, binutils, glibc, go, etc.
Peer review (internal and external) of patches will be standard practice.
Additionally: maintain the Oracle Cloud Developer Image. This is a Linux OS image collecting tools and packages for cloud development. Tasks involve producing the image by running scripts, which are maintained in the team, testing the image and troubleshooting it.
Our team is very geographically distributed, therefore the position involves a majority of long distance and electronic communication (phone, IRC, email).
The candidate needs to have a proven ability to work as a team player who can both participate in complex projects with a group of peers and team members.
The position will also require participation in the testing process through test
review, analysis, and development. In addition the engineer will be required to
interact with documentation, QA and support teams.
Needs to have good written and verbal English communication skills including occasionally presenting and demonstrating to technical audiences.
Needs to be a self-starter, able to deliver projects on time and to high standards with minimal supervision and coaching.
Required Experience:
5 years in Linux environment.
Skills: Strong experience with the GNU toolchain.
Good working knowledge of Linux operating system concepts required.
Development of GNU tools (gcc, gdb, glibc, binutils, etc).
Good knowledge of debugging formats (dwarf), file formats (ELF), C, Scripting Languages.
Unix and Linux development environment experience strictly required.
Experience with the Open Source communities and processes.
Good working knowledge of assembly languages and processor architectures (X86,arm).
Familiarity with source code control systems (Subversion and GIT).
Ability to maintain and update your workstation/laptop.
Ability to work in virtualized environments.
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
