Global Product Development Medical Affairs - Customer Strategy and Patient Partnership Dept.


The GMCTL is a global medical role that oversee and lead an international, field-based team of Global Medical Collaboration Leads (GMCLs) in one or more therapeutic areas to accelerate the development and delivery of medicines to patients through effective medical customer engagement in the early development phase.


Working closely with the Global Medical Team for the assigned therapeutic area and with the Global Medical Collaboration function, the GMCTL:


1.Enables GMCL team to orchestrate and successfully execute the in-field tactical delivery of the global strategy across countries for the assigned TA



  • Orchestrates relationships with the franchise, TA and early development teams to ensure effective alignment on the prioritization of GMCL activities and allocation of resources

  • Stays abreast of internal/external developments, trends and other dynamics to maintain a fully current view and perspective of internal/external influences and implications for the assigned therapeutic domain(s)

  • Provides clear direction and understanding of the integrated strategic plan and franchise development strategy to the GMCL team for the assigned TA  to ensure effective implementation of medical field-based activities

  • Facilitates GMCL success by removing barriers and equipping GMCLs with the focus, resources and knowledge required

  • Provides leadership and appropriate direction to the GMCL team through continuous alignment and guidance on GMCLs priorities and goals, including robust quantitative and qualitative key performance indicators that add value to scientific development.

  • Tracks GMCL performance / productivity metrics and communicates regularly with relevant departments on the progress to goals and measures of GMCL value and impact on the global strategy. Act as a champion in supporting the internal and external awareness on GMCL medical impact

  • Proactively identify opportunities and new approaches for the GMCL team to inform, define, refine and enhance medical strategy and global strategic planning (e.g. identifying opportunities and offering insights from the whole healthcare ecosystem - including TAEs, HCPs, sites’ staff, payers, patient groups…)

  • Manages resource allocation (people and budget) to support the franchise strategy by using strategic business acumen to evaluate alternative investment opportunities to maximize the impact on enhancing customer experience


2.Drives the GMCL team to establish effective partnerships with the affiliates to enhance local launch readiness and ensure a seamless transition when the TA program meets the threshold for affiliate handover



  • Maintains constant communication and connection with the full spectrum of internal stakeholders in order to build understanding, alignment and effective collaboration with the affiliates on the global strategy and GMCL role

  • Provide guidance and a common framework to the GMCL team to engage with affiliate stakeholders to establish a successful partnership for the areas of responsibility informed by internal and external customers’ needs and the local situation

  • Ensures a seamless transition between GMCLs and affiliate teams by collaborating closely with affiliate Medical Affairs management and/or other relevant stakeholders, providing clarity on timing and expectations


3.  Leads the GMCL team towards high performance in order to maximise their positive impact on the development pipeline and customer experience



  • Creates a team climate that nurtures the entrepreneurial spirit among GMCLs, fostering  innovation and collaboration to develop new approaches to enhance customer experience

  • Develops team and individual GMCL capabilities through executional guidance, coaching and continuous feedback in order to maximise their effectiveness in role and support them to achieve their full potential

  • Enables collaboration within the team members to capitalize on best practices and provide a positive team spirit and  environment

  • Foster opportunities for cross-functional collaboration and partnership that could represent development opportunities for the team and/or individual members

  • Maintains the highest standards and level of scientific expertise in the specific therapeutic area(s) of assignment, and ensure the same among staff members

  • Partners with internal stakeholders to ensure high quality, continuous scientific training for the GMCL team in the assigned TA(s)


4. Enables GMCLs to develop a dynamic network of internal and external stakeholders to ensure Roche is the preferred partner across the full healthcare ecosystem



  • Sponsors the development of new approaches by GMCLs  to create a more connected and integrated experience for customers

  • Ensure the GMCLs team has the appropriate capabilities to drive successfully scientific collaborations and dialogue with different customer types, including but not limited to global thought leaders and scientific societies, payers and patient organisations, as relevant

  • Identifies and progresses key opportunities for increased collaboration and cooperation with and between internal and external stakeholders


Cross-functional support



  • Liaise with the other teams within PDMA, PD, pRED/gRED, Commercial, International and Affiliates, providing  input as required


Compliance and Ethical Standards



  • Is responsible for acting in line with legal, regulatory and company standards and codes of practice (such as Roche Code of Conduct and any other Roche directives and guidelines) and including all local country policies related to HCP and HCO engagement

  • Completes all required training modules (including affiliate trainings as deemed needed) as a priority

  • High ethical standards, ability to demonstrate Roche Values and Leadership Commitments


Professional and Technical Requirements



  • Clinical/scientific background (PharmD, PhD, MD, advanced RN) preferred with experience leading MSL  or other in-field medical customer engagement roles

Experience



  • 5 years or more experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry

  • Global or local people management experience, preferably within Medical Affairs or another customer-facing function is required

  • 2 years or more experience as an MSL is preferred
