Our Laboratory for High Performance Ceramics (LHPC) has an opening for a

Scientist/Postdoctoral Researcher in the Field of bioelectric interfaces and photosynthesis

for experimental work in the 4-year cross-disciplinary project "Charge and energy transfer between cyanobacteria and semiconductor electrodes under γ-irradiation" funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, in collaboration with Hasselt University and IMEC, and SCK-CEN, the Belgian nuclear Science Center in Mol.


 


Your tasks


The researcher will



  • plan and carry out photoelectrochemical experiments on single crystal electrodes with bioelectric interfaces

  • design sample holder apparatus for in situ and operando experiments at radiation sources

  • collaborate with biologists and solid state physicists in photosynthesis experiments

  • prepare and analyze data, present them at conferences and publish them in peer reviewed journals


Your profile


We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious and self-driven bio-physicist with a sound background in electrochemistry, surface science, thin film physics and theory. The new colleague must have a doctoral degree and should have preferably some years of postdoctoral experience in



  • Film analysis with x-rays, neutrons, electroanalytical methods

  • Protein spectroscopy, electrophysiology, photosynthesis, photoelectrochemistry as demonstrated by a competitive and convincing publication record.


 


This full time position is initially limited to two years (with possibility of an extension), which we wish to fill by no later than June 1, 2020. A fluent oral and written command in English and effective communication skills are mandatory as well as readiness for frequent international travel and flexible working hours.
