For our projects related to atmospheric multiphase chemistry we are looking for a
PhD StudentYour tasksPhotochemical processes in aqueous atmospheric aerosol particles are important for their overall burden and life-time as well as for the gas phase composition and the atmospheric oxidation capacity. You will use state of the art techniques in trace gas sensing but also techniques available at PSI’s large research facilities, such as X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy. You will investigate feedbacks between transition metal induced peroxy radical chemistry with nitrogen oxides, halogen compounds and the organic compounds in proxies of aqueous aerosol particles. You will accompany the experimental activities with modelling tools at various scales including explicit aqueous phase chemistry modelling and incorporation of specific reactions in a larger scale atmospheric chemistry model. As a PhD candidate you will be enrolled at ETH Zürich.
Your profileYou should have a Master or equivalent in physical, or environmental chemistry. You should bring interest in molecular scale processes of the atmosphere. You should be motivated to work in an interdisciplinary team.
